Hi guys, I have a couple of questions regarding my file at NVC. I don't have a case number yet, but my petition has been approved! I'm just trying to make sure I have all the information correct in my head!

(I am USC, my husband is in Pakistan)

1. Does it matter who sends the choice of agent document? I plan on sending it through the mail then scanning that same one and sending it from my own email address, and my husband's email address.

Also, for the barcode input on the choice of agent document, are these the right instructions (I got them off of LingChe wiki), and if these are not the right instructions, how do i obtain the barcode?

DS-3032 barcode instructions

Go to web site idautomation[1].

Type in the case number under "Data to encode."

Under "Barcode symbology," select CODE 39.

Select "No" for "Add check digit"

Select "No" for "Add check digit to text"

Select "YES" for "Show text below barcode."

Change the "X dimension" (bar width) to 0.05

Change the "Barcode bar height" to 0.5.

Click on "Create Barcode."

Print out the result from the resulting pop-up window, cut out the barcode and case number below it, and paste it in the horizontal box on the DS-3032.

2. The DS-230 form, I understand that my husband (the beneficiary) has to fill it out, and sign it, correct? If this is the case, then can he send me the forms to my house, and then I send it to the NVC? The reason I ask if I can do this, is because the postal system is not very reliable in Pakistan, so I want to make sure it actually reaches USA. Can I do this or will the NVC ask me why the forms were sent from an address in the USA, and not from the beneficiary's address?

Thanks so much for your time!!

As was mentioned, you can email the DS-3023 however hubby signs it.

And as for the DS-230 form, he has to send that to you as it needs to have the original signature. He can send it by another method, DHL or UPS. It will get here quickly, within 3-5 business days usually. He should also send anything else you don't already have and need. For example any police records, birth certificates, etc. Remember anything in a foreign language must be translated into English.

You will send this to the NVC after you have paid the AOS fee and DS-230 fee. Each time you pay a fee the barcode is generated online. You can print it at that point.

Best of Luck!!

Have you checked out the March NVC filers thread? Read posts #1 and #2 for great information on the NVC process. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/417050-nvc-filers-march-2013/

If you are emailing the DS-3032, barcode is NOT needed. You just need to know the NVC case number (you have to wait until NVC gives you this until you can send in the DS-3032 Choice of Agent). You do not have to go the extra mile to create a mail version of the DS-3032. Email is much simpler and easier. Just use the template for emailing DS-3032 and email using your HUSBAND's email, not from yours.

You do not need to make your own barcode, that is old information for when the barcode sheets did not automatically show up after paying at payment portal. Currently, once you pay the AOS and IV bills, the barcode will be there automatically for you on payment portal to print even when the payment is still processing.

For the DS-230, your husband can send to you and then you can send it to NVC or he can directly send it to NVC. It does not matter. NVC will not ask you anything, as long as they receive the documents, they do not care where it was posted from.

No I haven't checked that thread yet, but it seems like they have step by step instructions for me... I read somewhere that I should email AND mail the DS-3032, but I guess I will just email it.

Thanks! So I understand that the AOS fee has to be sent and approved before I can send in anything, but I have to wait and get the DS-230 fee too? And when do I send my tax forms?

Your tax forms will be sent with your AOS paperwork. You will be invoiced for the AOS first. Once this is paid they will invoice you for the DS-230 within a few more days... roughly.

Technically you can send the AOS paperwork when it is paid for and you have the barcode, then you can send the DS-230 seperately once that is paid for if you would like. I just waited until the DS-230 fee was invoiced. Then I paid it and sent them both overnight together. It was more convenient, cheaper and I personally preferred they stayed together.

Wouldn't me sending my AOS paperwork first technically make it faster, since they'll start to process that before I even mail my DS-230 forms?

It does seem like a more simpler and faster way though.

Maybe?

I don't know if it is any faster or not as I only did the one way. I just know I didn't want to wait while they got matched up. It took less then a week from the time they received it to the time they approved it anyway, so really I think the timing in my case might have been the same either way... it was pretty quick.
