So I was wondering how successful people have been getting their wifes/husbands family out to the US on a tourist visa for their weddings or just to visit. We are in the process of helping my wifes family get a visa here. Any good examples on invitation letters and advice to help get the approval. I know it can be difficult to obtain the visa. Thanks.

Once the Consulate saw that there was a pending 130 petition, my wife was denied within five minutes.. was not worth the time and money.. she had plenty of ties to her country.. job, vacation approval, bank accounts, apartment lease, family she is taking care of blah blah blah.. nothing was even looked at.

I honestly believe that 95% chance is a no if you have a pending petition and 5% chance you will have an officer at the consulate who has some kind of common sense.

Good Luck

You have to accept the fact that anyone applying for a tourist visa goes thru the process and is judged on the merits of the case. You have nothing to do with it. You don't get them out of any country. It doesn't hurt to have this invitation letter but it doesn't make a difference either.

The help you can provide should be in the form of understanding how to advise them of the process and complying with the laws. That means beginning with the strongest ties rule. If they cant conform to that concept they wont ever get a tourist visa. They, not you, must PROVE beyond a doubt that they MUST return. Anything short of that will result in a denial.

It has zero to do with the officers feelings or what kind of day they may be having and common sense doesn't apply. They apply the law to the situation.

A pending application shows immigration intent. They will not grant a tourist visa to anyone that demonstrates the intent to immigrate. She had already acknowledged her will to leave the job ect behind so those ties meant nothing.

Anyone married to a USC has stronger ties to that spouse no matter where they are. That means when the person crosses the boarder the ties are to the USC in the USA. Every person with any visa is considered to have immigration intent.

I have heard it is getting a lot easier than in the past to get FSU relatives here for a visit. I have had my MIL here 3 times already and my BIL and his wife once. They had never even had schengen visas before (visa to European Union countries). They did emphasize their jobs and homes and other relatives staying in Russia that they needed to return to. Unless the relative is a single marriage age female you have a really good chance for success. If you want to maximize your chances have them get visas to visit Europe first(I hear Greece is especially easy) and be sure to not overstay those visits. Good luck.

Thank you for your response. I was hoping to hear from some one with experience from Russia so thank you for responding. Each country has different challenges. I believe her family have all traveled to Egypt and Turkey but I am not sure about any other countries. We will see how it goes.

My step daughter got a visitors visa with a pending I-130. She had no steady job at the time and poor ties to Russia. It seems like a ####### shoot.

We have had great success with visas for family and friends. One 23 year old daughter of a friend was denied, but when she applied again several months later she got the visa (this was last year). Visited us over the Christmas holiday.
