The article explained he amassed an arsenal of weapons and explained what he used. Not a machete, not a fertilizer bomb. These are diversionary lines of discussion about weapons not discussed in the article. The point is the amount of carnage is striking in the time it did take even compared to the other items and instances mentioned. If he'd taken more time with the weapon(s) he did have he'd have certainly done worse given the targets.

The response to this incident on a national level was pure shock, horror and then a grieving nation. I haven't forgotten the national tragedy that did occur that day by a young 20 year old boy with his mother's Bushmaster XM15-E2S rifle.

What I don't understand is how in cases where someone takes a failed shoe bomb or a failed underwear bomb on an airplane the entire nation is thus federally required to take their shoes off and get full body scans or a pat down in airports, but when someone takes an assault rifle into an elementary school and massacres six adult staff members and twenty children nothing really changes. This isn't even the first incident of mass gun violence in schools in our nation.

After this the response has been more guns are need. Good guys need guns to fight bad guys with guns. Arm the teachers and administrators with gun because that makes sense right? Schools are a battle field? The entire nation is a battle field at any point? How many educators are going to be turning away from the profession because now they're required to fight bad guys with guns? They're making

now and child size body armor after this incident. It's the same material worn by soldiers. It's ludicrousness.

Isn't it enough to wish for peace of mind and a peaceful place for our children to be educated instead of having to train for active shooter situations these days? They're not training for machete or fertilizer bomb attacks or dressing for protection from them either.

Thanks for your reply but let me be of help and show why much of your post fails the logic test.

-My Machete comment was simply to show the folly in focusing on one particular type of gun when even swinging a machete can be devastating. What you want to do would be like putting bars over the window a burglar came through... never mind the other points of entry.

-Sorry I don't share your enthusiasm of making every place in the country match the security sometimes needed in others such as airports. Going to an airport is voluntary. Requiring the nation to turning guns knives and toe nail clippers works in some peoples minds, not mine.

-If you don't believe the means to resist is required in some form at schools, either with police, volunteers or qualified teachers....do you also oppose this type of security in other places? Add up the gun incidents at airports and schools. see which is higher. Even in banks where money is in a vault, often times we see armed guards. Should the President take your advice on "less guns are better"???

-300 million guns in this country and you think you are going to secure children by banning future sales of this model or that.

•AR-15-style rifles look like military rifles, such as the M-16, but function like other semi-automatic civilian sporting firearms, firing only one round with each pull of the trigger.

A point really without a distinction. Well placed rounds do more real damage than just spraying bullets and wasting ammo. With the selector on "semi", the M16 and the AR15 function virtually the same, on a weapon with a relatively low sustained rate of fire (12-15 rpm). A 20 round magazine can be emptied in less than five seconds. You overheat the weapon almost as fast on "semi" as you do on "auto".

But as you know they shoot a fairly small round compared to say and average deer rifle and the AR-15 operates or shoots as fast as one can pull the trigger.

The only difference is magazine size... because they all work the same.

So the only real questions are

-Would banning future sales of these magazines really make a difference, when millions are already out there and would still be legal.

-If you had ESP and knew someone was planing to go in your kids school to kill, (but you don't know who) would you feel at ease knowing he has no access to either AR-15's or hi-cap magazines?

*and for a bonus question... What would you do to protect that school?

Thats because your old school. Since Vietnam the military believes in getting rounds down range as fast as possible. (personally though I agree with you.)

Could that "spray and pray" approach be why they average 250,000 rounds per insurgent killed?

i don't get it.

Do you have your name on an NRA Certificate?

No

It was provided as part of a CC course I did.

Which was based on the NRA book, but differed a bit.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

If I was intent on mass murder in a confined situation, a rifle would be my last choice.

Shotgun first backed up with a pistol.

Grenades would be nice. Molotov Cocktails as well.

YOu are exactly right,,,, the damage an AR-15 round does is nothing compared to a shotgun, and if one is shooting across a room at the most, didn't the VA Tech killer set the example with handguns?

That being said I will say it again.... Gun bans are coming, when they drop back down in price, seize the window of time to buy. \

Now if you believe this country is on a path to "more" civil, political and social stability, don't bother.

Insurance=Just in case.

The Rwandan Genocide was a genocidal mass slaughter that took place in 1994 in the East African state of Rwanda. Over the course of approximately 100 days (from the assassination of Juvénal Habyarimana and Cyprien Ntaryamira on April 6 through mid-July) over 500,000 people were killed, according to a Human Rights Watch estimate.[2] Estimates of the death toll have ranged from 500,000–1,000,000,[1] or as much as 20% of the country's total population.

The killing was well organized by the government.[17] When it started, the Rwandan militia numbered around 30,000, or one militia member for every ten families. It was organized nationwide, with representatives in every neighborhood. Some militia members were able to acquire AK-47 assault rifles by completing requisition forms. Other weapons, such as grenades, required no paperwork and were widely distributed by the government. Many members of the Interahamwe and Impuzamugambi were armed only with machetes. Even after the 1993 peace agreement signed in Arusha, businessmen close to General Habyarimana imported 581,000 machetes from China[18] for Hutu use in killing Tutsi, because machetes were obviously cheaper than guns.
