So do you agree the Heckler that heckled Michael Richards had it coming,, ?

I didn't say that. I said his behavior was inappropriate. The reaction to the behavior was also inappropriate. That does not, in any way, imply he deserved it.

Seriously, I am out of ways of explaining it to you.

It's possible to not feel sorry for someone as well as not condone what happened to them.

So now you are judging all paparazzi because one made a very bad comment.. were just not on here telling us how unfair it was to assume things about the black kid who blew a babies face off, even though everything we assumed was proven to be a fact.

You have a bewildering assortment of double standards and situational ethics, that is not uncommon for people who fancy themselves to be progressives. ( that is a word for people who are shamed to be called liberals. )

Oh my goodness.

Paparazzi in general are scum. Is every single one of them scum? Highly unlikely. I gave you an example of someone who WAS scum, made a disgusting comment, and got punched in the face. I condone neither the comment or the violent reaction. Get it? I simply don't feel sorry for the guy for getting the ####### knocked out of him.

No double standard there at all.

It's adorable when you try to tell me how you THINK I see things, when I'm actually telling you differently. Repeatedly. But you know best.

So Paparazzi are generally scum. However we should not make generalizations about gang bangers who blow babies faces off for no reason.. Got it. Wrote it in my rule book

Generally, yes they are. On par with murderers? Well, there was that whole Princess Di thing... but anyway. I don't feel sorry for people who, for a living, stalk and harass people.

You can make generalizations all you'd like. My point about making generalizations when it comes to murderers is that I feel you should ask the same questions of ALL of them, not just a few. Let's ask questions about a black murderer's mental health, not just a white one. Let's ask questions about a white murderer's upbringing, financial situation, parental situation ... not just a black one.

You are judging my immediate reaction to this story, yet your immediate reaction to crimes like the one you're talking about is to guess what racial profile the murderer fits. And you're also ATTEMPTING to tell me that I condone the behavior in the story, when I clearly do not.

When it comes to arguments or disagreements, read what people are actually trying to say rather than what you believe they say. When you react to imaginary viewpoints that the other person doesn't actually hold, your argument loses a bit of value.

You can write that in your rule book.

Here is a cheat sheet for those who just don't get it:

In america, we have this thing called the first amendment, which allows us to say whatever we want. It makes for people's voices to be heard everywhere(most of the time anyway)and it's a great part of being in a democracy. On the flip side, speaking your mind does has its share of consequences. Insult someone who just lost a child, you might get your butt whooped. So I think you should be prepared when you decide to speak your mind to have someone talk back with their mind, or fist, or feet, or weapon. Not condoning their actions, but it is what it is.

Take the above statement however you want, but this next one is set in stone: When you use slurs that target someone's skin color, culture, or sexual prefrence, for any reason, you're wrong. Point blank, no excuses. No one gets a pass. Mel, Michael, Isaiah, I don't care who you are, you have a problem. I am tired of folks saying "I was angry and my choice of words were poor". There are several words that do the job just fine(jerk, idiot, moron,(hi Gary) douchebag,). See how easy that was? I've been mad to the point of rage against quite a few people and it never crossed my mind to mention their race, gender, or sexual prefrence when we are involved in a shouting match or a fist fight. Everyone knows what words incite certain reactions from certain folks. To the ones who feign ignorance, hope the next person you insult using that language has had a really bad day so they can share it with you.

“Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.” – Coretta Scott King

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

I agree with all that 100%. I think the issue is there are 2 sets of rules depending which party you happen to support. Maybe not with you, but that doesn't seem to be the case with the media and other folks. If a conservative says something like this, he's a hood wearing, KKK loving, cross burning, redenck. If a liberal says something like this, he's simply ignorant or whatever. I think that's the issue some people have.

Wait a minute.... why do you get to decide where "over the line is?"

who are you to say I can get away with calling my Jewish neighbor "heb" but I can't call my other neighbor a **?

And anyway aren;t you on record throwing the "redneck" slur around.... IF that is not a culture, I don't know what is.

culture |ˈkəl ch ər|

noun

1• the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group.

I didn't, if the person you talk to lets you call them those words, then good on you, call me the n word or any other words that's deragatory and I guess you will have to see how I respond to it.

And for redneck, I apologize for using that word since my boss explained that even though it can be used for to describe people from the south, it's still a slur.

redneck is not a slur. i don't know how many hats i see in a day with "proud to be a redneck" stitched in red with the obligatory fish hook on the brim.

These threads generally come down to a few posters who want to use offensive words towards people and have there be no consequences. It just ain't fair, I tell you!

You can use whatever words you want. Just don't be surprised when some people don't like it.

while this is true, i don't think i've ever seen a hat with "proud to be a n..."

another example, take that wretched gretchen woman's country song "i'm a redneck woman" and replace redneck with a legitimate slur.. you'll never hear that song on the radio!

Wait a second. Then how come the N word is a slur? So if a black guy wore a hat saying "proud to be a "n***er," you wouldn't consider it a slur?

More double standards.

Who wants to use offensive words?

Raising questions of consistency is not the same as approving of calling people such names.

In my life I have only called someone a term like this once and this was in the Marines in a fight and there was a bit of context to using it.

When I watch a video like this and I see someone using that kind of language in a situation that has nothing at all to even do with race... it suggests to me this was a not a slip of the tongue.

Or... maybe he is one of these well healed white boys mimicking the urban jargon and it rolled out by habit.

Either way, like a puss he waits till he is safe inside to unload.

What would have been cool is if that photog has drug him back on the sidewalk and made him eat his words.... with camera rolling.

So a violent reaction would have been more acceptable than this one?

last time i checked the redneck demographic were never slaves or treated as subhumans in this country. that's how. it isn't a double standard. the playing field has always been and still is - unequal.

and yeah. if over the course of the next few years, that word becomes less offensive to the majority, great! start a clothing line. the word doesn't offend me in the slightest. actually, i can't think of a single word alone that someone could say that would offend me.
