If asked tell the truth.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Yes, we went through the exact same thing. My in-laws went to their tourist visa interview about a week before the fiance visa interview. They did mention that my fiance would be getting married, and they wanted to be in the US for the wedding. I know that they brought proof of their jobs (and I think a letter from their employers saying when they had to return). My brother-in-law was unemployed at the time, but he was a student. They had no problem getting the visa, and I believe that they didn't even have to show much proof. However, I would go in with everything you can just in case. I recommend a property deed or mortgage bill, proof of employment or letter from employer, bank statements might help, anything that can show ties to Brasil. It's been awhile, but I think they waited to buy tickets until they knew they would be able to actually travel. My father also wrote a letter stating that he would take responsibility for their financial needs here in the US and guaranteeing that he would see to it that they returned to Brasil as planned. According to my in-laws, the interview was extremely easy with not much proof required. They were interviewed in Brasilia if that makes any difference. I know of at least one other VJ member who was successful in having her mom come to the US for the wedding on a tourist visa from Brasil. Good luck!

You can make sure they understand the importance of the strongest ties rule. This means they have to prove not why they want to visit, rather why they MUST return. The whole process hinges on that.

I did the same!

I am still waiting for my K1 visa, but my mom went for her interview last week.

They didn't ask for any docs, just ask where she will go, when and how much time she will be in US. She didn't mention my wedding neither that her daughter is moving to US soon. She said that was less than 5 min interview and got 10 years visa.
