i wouldn't specify the work, but yeah, giving teenagers the opportunity to earn money would be a eye-opener for a lot of kids.

And of course this flies in the face of raising the minimum wage so these kids can earn the "living wage."

No one is paying unskilled teens to pick beans at 10 bucks an hour.

In less progressive states you can pay by the volume picked, this gives an even better "real life experience" to teens.

Again, Danno assuming that people are poor due to choice.

Well maybe I am wrong, tell me the three top things which tie a person to poverty?

No, shift a bit. picking beans for someone under 16 won't be at minimum wage, at all.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

No maybe about it. Of course you're wrong. Who would CHOOSE to be poor? Sure, there are choices people can make that will hurt them financially and eventually lead them to be poor. But that's rarely what you see coming out of these neighborhoods. These people never had a chance to begin with.

You tell me, Danno. What's a black kid supposed to do when he's born into a poor family in a rundown neighborhood? No good schools, no activities to teach him any skills that could be useful in the workforce, no opportunities for employment. What does that kid do? How is he making the choice to be poor?

yes. bravo danno. we should teach teens that they do not deserve to earn a living wage, considering they are a product of the permanent underclass - they must stay poor. they must work the hardest jobs for not near enough money, so they can understand the true value in hard work. so they can understand that hard work, in this country, is in fact - not enough to maintain. have you ever worked for minimum wage and supported a family at the same time? i don't recommend it. it's impossible.

stick to your attitude that the poor must be punished for being poor. jesus friggin loves it.

bootstraps!

i'm sorry that you don't see the benefit to investing in humanity.

Yes I personally do.... but as grand as that notion is.... we have very little evidence that Gov't knows how to do this effectively.

Look the truth is: The only humanity these programs benefit long term... are those who have a decent pension from these jobs.

These programs are too often destroying families, communities and lives.

And you want more of them.

no surprise, haters gonna hate. you whine about poor people receiving welfare and government employees receiving pensions.

i'm talking about local, community, infrastructure and support. not federal programs.

i know you're not honestly of the belief that job training centers, daycare, community centers, and jobs do not help poor communities. you know such things can only improve a community. your problem with these solutions is that they don't properly punish. you feel something is being taken from you personally and given to someone else undeservedly. jealously mired with apathy is an ugly thing.

Does this nonsense answer my question? Are these kids choosing to be poor and lacking any opportunity?

If teens deserve to be paid a "living wage" how much should a mother with 2 kids make?

Their fountain of opportunity starts with their parents.

OK, you believe these people are doomed ... kinda a sad outlook on people.

are you seriously asking such a loaded, vague question. pft.

are you asking in relation to the hypothetical program darnell and i were originally talking about? or are you talking in general, like there should be a rate of pay established for females according to their number of spawn.

Right now, they are. And yes, it's incredibly sad.

What benefits? I haven't read anything about her financial situation.

Ok right.. Have we not already had a go around about how we should not assume anything, and then Danno being 100% correct.

I will bet you any amount of money you wish to wager that she is on means tested Public assistance of some form. I am that sure of it

I was asking you a sincere question. I was curious as to what benefits you were talking about, since I had read nothing of it. She may very well be. That is clearly the main issue of this story and I'm glad you're spending so much time on it.
