A Stokes interview is where they have doubt that your relationship and marriage is genuine.

If it is a Stokes, you will be separated and asked anything from 20 or 30 questions (or more) about your daily life together, such as "which side of the bed do you sleep on?", "what colour is your shower curtain?", "what did you eat for dinner last night and who cooked it?" and so on.

They will ask this identical set of questions to you both separately and then compare the answers. How closely the two sets of answers match will determine whether they approve or deny your applications.

If you have a bona fide marriage then this is not something to panic over. Plenty of people have had a Stokes and plenty of people have received approval afterwards, but at the same time it is something that you should take very seriously.

If you do not have a lawyer you may want to consider hiring one to attend the interview with you (they will be permitted to be in the room during both sets of questions).

So the next interview is probably the dreaded 'Fraud' interview, meaning, in your first interview they suspect that it's not a real relationship or something. THIS time, you'd better get your act together and go prepared. I also don't mean to be rude, but you said you were too lazy to add them to your account, and had no interest in doing so. That's not really a great attitude is it to have with your new spouse?

But this next interview is going to probably be fairly long, lots of questions. I would be shocked if they didn't interview you BOTH, not just him, right?

Good luck!

I shouldve elaborated on lazy because thats what keeps getting peoples attention. By lazy I meant I was more focused on my cancer than adding him to my bank accounts. This is my second marriage and I have never had knowledge about joint assets and both names being on this account or that. So when I say I wasnt interested I meant it wasn't a big deal before so I dont see it to be a big deal now. We love each other and thats all that matters. maybe we weren't prepared as they wanted us to be.

OK, well I hope you don't mind US considering it a much bigger deal than apparently you do, and trust me, the USCIS that you are about to deal with certainly considers a big deal when. So yeah, I guess if you don't think it's a big deal, and they do, well then I wish you the best. Doesn't seem like you're taking this very seriously, but I hope it all works out.

No - not the same evidence. You are likely to be denied with the same evidence.

You need to show that you are co-mingling finances. They need to see that you are a geniune couple who have started to build a life together in the US. Open up a joint bank account or add him to your bank account. Do you have life insurance? Is he the benficary?

She can't "make" evidence now. They won't consider it. She needs to find stuff that she hasn't already submitted. I suggest statements from friends and family as one. Birthday cards ANYTHING showing joint names.

I'm not sure you understand... if they don't like the answers, the case is denied and he will be given 30 days to leave the country or be placed in removal proceedings.

This is serious. He may think the carpet/curtains/doona is a different colour to you (for example when I was asking tony about this years ago I said our doona/comforter was a tan/green. He said brown). You can try practicing questions but you won't have any idea what they'll ask.

They CAN ask

- When did you last have sex?

- What birth control does she use?

- What is her/his favourite position?

- Where are the pots kept?

- When does the trash get collected?

- What side of the car do you fill on?

And any manner of questions they think will trip you up. I've heard of people being asked 100 questions. I believe 5 wrong means a denial.

This is VERY serious.

OK. Didn't realize it would be too late now to have a joint bank account but I agree this is very serious.

OP - have you made wills with the other being the benificary?

In another thread, the couple having a Stokes Interview were asked separately what they did the previous Saturday. Things like 'who got up first? Where did you go? Who drove? Did you buy anything? What did you buy?'

Colors with men and women are often contradictary. Hopefully they take into account that a man might say blue and a woman might say turqoise!

I do take it seriously, but not when my health is involved. I am going to do what I need to do, I've made it this far, and without an attorney. All of this is just happening at a bad time.

me and my hubby are close. So close that we always go everywhere together. Everywhere! I even got him a job where I work. So I'm not going to stress myself. If he gets denied then it's gods will. I can't control the future.

Sadly, it's not.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
