I am getting ready to file aos,ead and ap for my wife but just filed for her ssn also. Should we wait until we receive the ssn first before sending in the aos package or is ok to send prior to getting the ssn? I don't want to have to do anything twice if I should just wait a couple weeks to avoid it. Thanks in advance.

time and timing BETWEEN these things doesn't matter.

what DOES matter, is the timing on her SSN app. see ssn http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/405546-ssn-howto/

It's funny you posted that, which I read a few weeks ago. My wife arrived March 26th. We waited over 2 weeks and went to the local ssn office and were told she couldn't get a number until we were married. I didn't feel like arguing with them since we were going to get married in a few days anyway. She was not changing her last name by the way. We returned last week after getting married on the the 16th and were told that something was pending with immigration but took her application and was going to send it and the marriage license via mail to immigration. She said we should hear something within 4 weeks. That is why I am asking for advice now about sending in her aos file now or just waiting. Thanks

so, when you read it, you remembered to have her looked up in the SAVE database at the SSA office, and study the results of the lookup

both in

A# and

VISA name?

Yes? No ?

If no, you missed a major fork in the decision tree.

Sorry. You should have felt like arguing, instead, as you ran into a dumb-sh|t SSA employee. There are many of those, across the country, and it's on you to help eradicate them so the next fella coming up behind you doesn' t have these problems.

Bad form, IMO.

oh, sorry - I forgot... LoL !

It doesn't matter! You can send her AoS without her SSN. That's what I did cause I wanted to have my social with my married name, so I waited to get my EAD. Good luckkkkk!
