RFE for marriage certificate

So, we knew going in that we'd be rolling the dice a bit with this, but we included our Record of Solemnization in our I-130 application package so that we could send that out right away and get in line while Service Ontario messed around with it's 8-12 weeks of processing in order to get the marriage recorded. I had read in the past that people got an NOA2 by just including their Record of Solemnization (never got an RFE), so we figured we'd go for it. Just wanted to share our experience that the marriage certificate was requested, though I don't think that we would have done things any differently.

That's crummy. I would have been surprised to see them accept the record of solemnization as that could be signed by anyone. It is the official government document they want their hands on. Was it recent that you saw someone get an NOA2 with only that?

It might have been awhile ago that people got through with that, but since it took Service Ontario nearly 8 months to get us our marriage certificate with the correct information on it (and the typographic error was of course not their fault), I'm glad we got in line with USCIS when we did rather than waiting on Service Ontario!

I definitely think you made the right choice, it was a risk because if someone was grumpy that day they may have turned your petition around and denied it but that would have been very obnoxious. At least this way you got the ball rolling!

Yes, that arrived at the very beginning of March (finally!), so when the actual letter for the RFE came we were able to turn around and send it out the next day. Hopefully the review process will go quickly.
