Hi all

My husband and I were living in Australia and decided to move back to his home in the US to take advantage of the GI Bill as he is a veteran. He moved back to set up home while I stayed in Australia waiting for my approval for an I-130. When he got home he signed up for some kind of health cover through veterans affairs (I don't know much about it) and then was in an horrific car accident on xmas, rupturing his spleen and breaking 6 bones including his back and femur. Veterans affairs has declined our claim to cover the hospital expenses because, even though he signed up, he hadn't used their service prior to his accident. Which means he now has a bill of almost $220,000 and is unable to work for the foreseeable future. He saw a medical bill councilor who has told him his best option is to file for bankruptcy. I have just found out that I have my NOA2, so I still need to have my embassy interview, police background check, medical and affidavit of support completed. My father in law will sponsor me for the affidavit of support but will having a bankrupt husband impact my application?

Has anyone been through this or can anyone give me any advice? The good news is he should recover almost completely with time, I was able to get some leave and spent as much time there with him as I could, but now I have to cover both his and my bills I had to come back to Australia for work. I really need to get back over there with the ability to work over there to support him not just financially but also physically. He isn't well enough to be able to do the flight back here. I can't even tell you how horrible this whole situation has been so thank you for all your help.

I agree.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
