The major step is for NVC to acknowlege they have received the file meaning it has been scanned into their system. sometimes it is in their building but gathering dust in the mail room.

After that case number issuance could take anywhere from 2-4 weeks. Longer in few cases.

GOD has been WONDERFUL!!!

Mine took about a month. It took them about 2 weeks to receive the petition and then another 2 weeks to input it and generate my numbers.

It took them seven weeks to receive my file in the mail room. No telling when they will actually issue our number.

I'm a dual US/Hungarian citizen (both by birth; Hungarian citizenship verification TBA), and my husband is a dual British/Irish citizen (by treaty) from Northern Ireland. We are atheists.

Thanks to all of you, your replays were very helpful. And I hope that it will help others.

The have received my file on the 20th of march. Do I have to keep calling or just wait till I receive something from them?

It's up to you. I called everyday but I needed to for myself. It could be a week or two till you get a number. So you have to decide what you are comfortable with.

I spoke to a woman from the Congressional Unit just now (normally this is impossible and I got to talk to her as the result of someone's mistake).

The official timeframe being quoted by the NVC for issuance of a case number after the file is marked as being present in the building is now 2 to 4 weeks, not 10 to 15 business days as quoted previously.

I'm a dual US/Hungarian citizen (both by birth; Hungarian citizenship verification TBA), and my husband is a dual British/Irish citizen (by treaty) from Northern Ireland. We are atheists.
