Hello again,

I am the beneficiary and I am confused with the tax papers...

What is the difference between Federal Tax return &. Tax Transcripts &.1040 form???

We have the 1040 forms and W2. Do we need anything else?

  • IRS Tax information (photocopy or IRS Tax Return Transcript) - 1 year is required, up to 3 years may help.

  • Tax Return Transcripts, optional but may help
  • 1040 from most recent tax year

  • Federal Tax Returns: You need to collect copy of completed federal tax returns with all supporting schedules and W-2s for the 3 most recent tax years. Make sure to sign copy of tax returns. If you don't have a copy of W2's then you may request it via contacting your employer(s).
  • IRS transcripts: You can request your tax return transcripts for previous 3 years for free from the IRS. There is no charge for the transcript and you should receive it in 10 business days from your request received at IRS

sep 2012 - we met in person and spent 2 weeks together =)
oct 2012 - he proposed to me!!!!
8 Dec 2012- we got married!
13 Mar 2013 - I-130 sent
16 Mar 2013- I-130 package delivered
21 Mar 2013 - case transferred to NBC- email notification; check cashed

4 Nov 2013 - 1st email received: our file was transferred to another office

5 Nov 2013 - 2nd email received: our file was transferred to the local USCIS Office

8 Nov 2013 - 3rd email received: our file was transferred to an USCIS office

8 Nov 2013 - got the letter saying our file is in the California service center

25 Nov 2013 - NOA2 received, file approved

10 Jan 2014 - NVC number received

5 Nov 2014 - fees paid

24 Nov 2014 - NVC received the documents

4 May 2015- Interview

VISA APPROVED!!!!

6 June 2015 - POE in Chicago

Federal Tax Return - all forms submitted to IRS by the taxpayer for that tax year

Tax Transcript - an abbreviated version of tax data gleaned from all tax forms submitted to IRS. Generated by IRS, requested by TaxPayer from IRS.

1040 - a form used to file a Federal Tax Return. Usually, there are other forms besides the 1040 when filing.

So, if we have copies of all the forms submitted to IRS(1040 plus others) would that be enough? Or do we have to request the tax transcripts?

I'm a fan of tax transcripts, though (and thats ok) ..

it's either/or . Choose 1 or the other, aye?

Question relating to this. Can you submit 2 years of tax transcripts from previous years and then submit a copy of taxes for 2012 if the IRS hasn't completed processing the tax return and transcript, yet?

03/23/2022: Application for passport submitted at USPS facility under standard processing.

04/04/2022: Status changed to “The U.S. Department of State has received your application for your passport book on 04/04/2022. We're now reviewing your application and supporting documents...Your application locator number is 51*******.”

04/04/2022: Check for passport cashed.

05/03/2022: Status changed to "The U.S. Department of State approved your application for your passport book. We're now printing your passport book and preparing to give it to you. You should receive your passport book on or around 05/09/2022."

05/05/2022: Passport Received.

05/09/2022: SSA Citizenship Status Updated.

05/25/2022: Naturalization Certificate received in mail.

I think even the people at NVC and consulate/embassies are also fans :D . It is less hassle to review and less paperwork to handle.

09/15/2012: Got Married
09/26/2012: Mailed I-130 from Nigeria( delayed by customs)
USCIS stage ( 66 days)
10/12/2012: NOA 1
12/17/2012: NOA 2 (case was transferred to NYC office 11/27/12)
NVC stage ( 20 days)
01/08/2013: Case # and IIN assigned ( file arrived NVC mail room 12/20/12)
01/09/2013: AOS invoiced and paid, DS-3032 emailed and mailed.
01/16/2013: IV invoiced &paid. AOS & IV mailed in one package(arrived 01/18).
01/28/2013: Case complete!!!
04/19/2013: Interview; APPROVED!!!!!
05/13/2013: POE; JFK

N-400: (3 months and 12 days)
Filed N-400 : 2011-06-17
Interview: 2011-09-27
Oath Ceremony: 2011-09-30

IR-5 for Mom Entire process took 5 months exactly
USCIS (22days)
mailed I-130 : 2011-09-30
NOA 1: 2011-10-03 (text & email)
NOA 2: 2011-10-25 (text and email)
NVC: (19 days)
Case entered and # assigned: 2011-11-18
NVC Case COMPLETED: 2011-12-07 ( 43 days from NOA 2 and 65 days from NOA 1)
Interview Date(Lagos): 2012-01- 23 Mom was late for interview
New Interview date: 2012-02-29 : VISA APPROVED
