Has anyone been asked to do extra tests that have cost more than the 235? I mean, if you have been a smoker, will you have to pay more for another x ray or sputum test for example? I'm just at the beginning of this and completely lost already, lol.

If you smoke you may get a health lecture, depending on the doctor's mood. It has no effect on receiving a visa.

If you show up looking high, smell of weed, or admit to currently using drugs, they could request a urine sample for drug testing. That is not routine, so I suppose fee would be charged for the test.

If you have a chest cold or bronchitis and your x-ray looks cloudy so they can not evaluate it for tuberculosis, they may require you to go home, get well, then come back in several weeks to get a better x-ray. They would likely charge to do the x-ray over. It's not that bronchitis is a visa problem, but they need a clearer picture so they can tick no to TB. Sputum tests are routine in Manila where TB is rampant. Never heard of one in the UK.

Thank you. I'm an ex smoker and haven't done drugs. Just wondered how it affects the test.

Current heavy smokers get done with one x-ray and one visit to the clinic all the time. Should not be a concern to you.

I think it's just the fear of a medical that is scary for those of us who aren't hypochondriacs. Like will they find something I don't want to know about. Like will they tell my liver is kapput even though I don't drink, much.... Lololol, who am I kidding, I'm British ;) and silly stuff like did my school send all vaccination info to my doctors? I think it's the stress of the whole process which just heightens our fears.

  • 1 month later...

I haven't seen this one mentioned, but it pops up on USCIS and Embassy sites - is Hep B vaccine necessary for an adult male age 44?

Yes, we are being Last Minute Larry's to worry about this now, but we thought he had everything and now we're worried about this one.

Hep B ends at 18 years old.

That's what I thought, my husband wasn't sure and got lost in a Google search and had me convinced it was needed.

You are a GEM! Thank you :-)

The one on the embassy website has been out of date since 2009 changes.

Tdap and MMR is all he needs, then! And since NVC is on summer break apparently, he's got time to get that sorted.

Thanks again!! I'm forwarding him the link :-)
