Hun, I have ignored your question because I have written volumes to you already in the forum and private message. I seriously think I have studied all the medical publications more than any person on VJ over the last five years. There is nobody here who is more knowledgeable on medical because that is my "thing". I don't give answers that I've "heard". They are documented from the USCIS, Dept of State, form instructions, memorandas put out by the agencies etc. I just try to write them in simpler terms to help people who are not so good at reading comprehension. That long list is copied from the Adjudicators Field Manual.

You can start here With the Technical Instructions for Panel Physicians. http://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/exams/ti/panel/technical-instructions-panel-physicians.html

Click every link and read every word and reference like I have. There is a chart in there.

But this is futile explaining to you any further. I want to say this as kindly as possible. Really I do because you are a sweet, sweet girl. No matter what you prepare for this visa medical, you are going to get to AOS and worry again. You will go do another full medical with a civil surgeon because you will doubt yourself and your documentation. You went and got checked for all medical things before your medical. You got a heart test because you didn't know how to fill out the questionnaire about heart condition because what if your Dad's heart condition was hereditary. Seriously? Nobody does that.

So that's why I think you don't really need to pre-empt seeing a civil surgeon by planning ahead and getting the shots. You will feel the need to do another full medical for a couple hundred dollars in the US, because you doubt your knowledge. Sort the shots with a civil surgeon. A K1 needs ZERO shots to get a visa. Ask your doctor's office for a print out of all immunizations and dates. Take it to the US.

I'm not going to do another full medical in the US unless I have to as we need to save money. I just want to double check that they are the only vaccinations I need as I'm going to my nurse tomorrow about something else and I want to get it all booked in and done now. It wasn't a case of "what if" if my dad's condition was hereditary, on his paperwork he had the condition listed and was told it is a hereditary condition and his brothers got tested as well, and I needed to make sure I got tested as I wasn't going to the US with the knowledge that I may have a degenerative heart disease. I think it'd be irresponsible to do otherwise.

I'm going to the doctors tomorrow afternoon and I'm going to need to go through my vaccination history and see whatever combos/boosters I may need, so I need to make sure exactly what I'll need/don't need. I think you may have taken it the wrong way.

Good news! Got back from the nurse today and she showed me my records, confirming I had the DTP (or whatever combo it was, Diptheria, Tetanus and Pertussis) as a child and then a booster with it all again in 2005 making that cover till 2015, and an MMR vaccine in 1991 as a baby and a second booster MMR in 1995. So as far as I know, I'm all good, and she's going to print out my vaccination records for me. I'm assuming it doesn't matter how long ago the MMR vaccines were and they don't need boosters? (I didn't know DTap needed boosters)

Nevermind, just re-read Nick's earlier posts and googled MMR on NHS UK and apparently MMR doesn't need boosters and the 2 shots covers you for life.

Thank you for this!

Would definitely recommend getting it done for free at your GP (most will) to save you a lot of money! They can print out your vaccination records as well while you're there.

I have already spoken to my surgery and they have said I have to pay £10 and take in a written letter to get my vaccination records! Also I cannot make head nor tail of that vaccination document, so no idea what it is I'm supposed to be getting! It's the part of this process that makes the least sense to me! :(

(I have never heard of free jabs at the surgery though. I had to pay for mine when I went traveling...)

Yeah, I have to pay for the vaccination records too as it's "medical records" and not covered by the NHS, but I'll need them anyway regardless, so. And really? Your GP must be stingy :S. I got all of my travel vaccinations for free and my nurse was happy to provide vaccinations for free if I needed them this time (though I didn't need any). They should be covered with the NHS. I'd read here before that most do it for free, and my GP was happy to as well.

The vaccinations you will need (thanks to Nich-Nick) -

MMR (Mumps, Measles, Rubella). You need 2 shots of this, so if you have a record of 2, you're fine. If you only have one, you can get the second one before your medical, or if you've never had any (most people have had at least one though), you can get the two shots 4 weeks apart.

DTP (Diptheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) - Accepted forms are Tdap, Td, DTP, DT, DtaP. This needs to be within the last 10 years, and if you haven't, your GP can give you this shot.

Varicella - Not available in the UK, but you're good if you've had chickenpox.

Flu - Only through flu season (October through March) and you can get this pretty much anywhere. Sainsburys and Boots even do them now, I believe.

It's pretty easy once you get your head round it. The full, two shot MMR vaccine, and DTP within the last 10 years. Write it down and take it to your GP, and they'll go through it with you. I'd already had mine done and didn't need any additional shots.

No problem :). I went into the nurse and told her the vaccinations I needed/needed to have a record of. She looked through my records and pointed out what I'd had and when, and it turns out I didn't need any. I had one MMR as a baby, then the second MMR as a young infant, and I had DTP in 2005 so it's valid till 2015. She then said as she didn't know how to use the printer, she'd print it out and arrange for me to pick it up in the next couple of weeks and call me. It's been a couple of weeks now, but I think she's doing it on the sly as she said "If the doctor finds out, he'll charge you". Lol. He is also going to charge me for a signed letter from himself stating that my past depression "isn't a threat to myself or others".

I spoke to my mum (the font of all medical knowledge!) and I have had both my MMR jabs, but I definitely have had no inoculations in the last 10 years, so I will have to have that DTP jab.

So those are the only two needed then? I was sure it was a massive list! :P

Thanks so much for your help!

I spoke to my mum (the font of all medical knowledge!) and I have had both my MMR jabs, but I definitely have had no inoculations in the last 10 years, so I will have to have that DTP jab.

So those are the only two needed then? I was sure it was a massive list! tongue.png

Thanks so much for your help!

Yep, it'll just be the DTP jab then, and if you have your medical after October, a flu jab that you can just get at most stores nowadays. Just make sure you get your vaccination records printed out showing the two MMR jabs and the DTP shot once you've had it. Tell them at the medical you've had chickenpox as well to sort out the Varicella part of it.

No problem smile.png The chart does look quite daunting, but if you scroll to our age group and wittle it down, it's not much at all.
