transferring money from US to ireland

Hi,

I know there is another similar thread but my question is different. We are moving to the states in 5 days and i just want to make sure i can transfer money from a US bank to ireland. We own a house a galway after buying it last year so want to make sure my acount is topped up to pay all the bills. Do banks in the states let you transfer money to acounts abroad. I was talking to my friend who does a similar thing whereby he transfer money from ireland to his home acount in pakistan.Is that possible in the states.

I want to be able to transfer money to my bank acount in ireland. Dont think paypal can do this can they?

If you can wire money TO a US bank I can't see why you can't wire money FROM one..

I know some people still have UK based credit cards (as they havent yet got US based ones) and pay their bills from the USA

i may have got around this issue. I have setup 2 paypal accounts, one for ireland and the other one for the states. Should be able to transfer money from one to the other. I have added my bank to my acount in ireland and will do so the same in the states.

Is this a secure method.

I use PAYPAL to make the bulk of my Net shopping and Ive always found it very secure..my other half uses it to collect fees for his Net server from his acount holders..and ditto there too..they do charge around 2 or 3 $ for each transaction and it takes a day - a few days to arrive in your account.

I have no input in regards to the paypal stuff, but I work at a bank and do wire transfers around the world. They cost $20 here at my bank. As a matter of fact, I'm trying to send some cash to a mexican account, but there's something new called a CLABE that designates the mexican account number, and I wasn't given that. So now I have someone's money sitting on my desk! Whoops!

I found this out about fee's on Paypal..

Depends on if you qualify for merchant rates (how much you receive on average monthly) or not.... the fee's for paypal are:

1.9% to 2.9% + $0.30.

If your like me, and don't get an average of over $3,000.00 a month, you get the standard rate... 2.9% + $0.30. As an example, someone sent me $15.99.. paypal deducted $0.92 from it for fee's.
