AOS: Co-Mingling

Hello All

We've just filed for our AOS a couple of weeks ago following our marriage - we submitted quite a bit of evidence in regard to our ongoing relationship including sworn affidavits from people who came to our wedding, including both the signed witnesses on our marriage certificate.

We are conscious we need to show co-mingling of finances - which we are keen to do in the long term anyway. However, I will not have a SSID until I get my EAD documentation, so what can we co-mingle ahead of that (if anything).

My wife is changing her name too.

On a related note, does anyone know the process for getting your SSID when you have your EAD. I have an informal job offer for when I have my EAD that I would like to take up as soon as I am able.

To get your SSID just google social security number for your town/.city and it will give you a list of offices where you can apply after your have your EAD or your greencard. You might not get your EAD before your interview so make sure you have supporting evidence of life together like credit card where your spouse the US citizen is the acct holder and you an authorized user, joined bank account / .checkbook acct ( bank of america doesn't require SSID if you have an acct with a US citizen ) joined car insurance, basically whatever can be done together do together

Once you have your EAD you simply take it to your nearest Social Security Administration office, together with a completed SS-5 application and your long-form birth certificate (they may ask to see it, I was) and you will receive the card in the mail a week or so later.

Take EAD to the SSA - probably bring some sort of backup ID in case they ask for it (passport). They'll probably issue you one so it'll come in the mail in 7-14 days depending on where you live.

What you can do - if you get bored of waiting for the SSC in the mail is swing by the SSA the day or two after and ask for a print out/confirmation with your ssn printed on it. Take that (and the letter the EAD came in along with the NOA1 letter) to your DMV and get a state ID or license/permit. And then you're on a roll. When you have your ssn(just the number) along with EAD you can start working.
