Family Member from Tourist to Perm?

Back in September, my father-in-law interviewed to come over to visit us on a 6 month tourist visa. We are still waiting for that to be approved. However, in the interim, my husband has been approved for Naturalization (yay) and will be attending an Oath ceremony this week.

IFmy father-in-law wishes to stay permanently once he gets here, what would we need to do to change his from a tourist to a resident? Is it allowed?

The intent was for him to come over as a tourist, which is still the intent. I'm not sure he would even want to stay, but what happens if he wants to stay? Can he file from here or would he have to go back home and file from there?

If he gets a tourist visa don't let him mess it up by overstaying a visit, let him go home , his son can file for him with

smooth sailing its IR so the wait is not long, don't try to pull a fast one on uscis, and don't follow what others claim

they have done, puss & dog don't have the same luck.

Was he given a 221g form at interview?

To have a tourist interview 6 months ago and heard nothing and from Iraq. Don't know if he will even get here.

You asking about this BEFORE he enters is intent. He can't enter with the idea he MIGHT stay, that's still visa fraud.

So no. At this point you have shown he MIGHT have intent on entry, which would make it visa fraud, which is against the VJ TOS to advise.
