Our case was reaffirmed after a visa denial. My husband was emailed by the embassy and asked to send a new DS230, affidavit of support, passport pics, new police certificate and his passport. I sent the affidavit of support using my income of over $25,000 for a family size of 3. I am worried the the embassy will not let me sponsor my husband because it is a combination of rental income, social security and child support. I am worried that my income has to be from employment.

Could someone please put my mind at rest about my income. Will I be able to sponsor my husband or will I need a co-sponsor.

Hey carolyna, although you are above the poverty guideline and have your own income of that amount it is advisable to have a cosponscor. I just saw a case a while ago same situation and income. The person was put in AP the only difference was visa type, islamabad embassy accepts cosponcers for cr1 so send it with cosponsor who is blood related to you and has good credit and a solid income with a solid work history. Yes they do look at this stuff and can make it a reason internally to not process paperwork.

they don't check credit history for sposnors or co-sponsors. Co sponsors do not need to be blood related as long as they are a USC or LPR who earns above the poverty guidelines. domiciled in the US.

Carolyn my income is from child support and SSDI and I didn't have any problems with sponsoring my husband. SSDI is not a means tested benefit, it is considered income for the I-864. If you are worried if your income isn't high enough it wouldn't hurt to have a joint sponsor lined up just in case, that is what we did because I was worried about whether or not they would use my income, but it wasn't an issue. Good luck!!!

Thank you mimolicious for sharing that information with me. My income is high enough and it is SSDI, rental income and child support. For proof of child support I sent the court order and 3 years worth of bank statements showing direct deposit. All my income is acceptable for the I-864.

The mind plays tricks with you when you are going through this process. I just needed to find someone who used the same sources of income so that I could feel better.
