LOL I will have to give this one to you. we have had a habit lately of all threads turning into racial threads very quickly. Maybe race is the real burning issue in this country no one wishes to talk about

I had to explain it. A much smaller minority of people, NRA members, has a much stronger influence on legislation than a much larger minority because they are NOT gerrymandered into just a few districts. Every elected representative needs to consider the affect of the NRA in his/her district and that effect/margin is usually enough to decide whether that person gets elected or not next time.

Other minorities of any persuasion would do well to DEMAND that districts be drawn on an at large basis or strictly population basis in order to make as many representatives as possible be influenced by their issues.

Of course, most of them didn't get my drift and think I was "baiting" and needed to post some comment to show their lack of understanding. Who cares? THAT's why we don't get new gun laws and it is all good for me.

Now I am wondering if the New Yorkers in her home state SOLD her to the people in Greenspoint <cough>Gunspoint<cough> so they could have someone to represent them. This could be because perhaps they couldnt find anyone in Greenspoint who could read and write well enough to get through the "run for office" application?

Either way - it must have taken DAYS of debate in Austin to figure out how to bundle enough bad schools and bad neighborhoods into one district to get a democrat elected. Below is the result and this result gives us: Sheila Jackson Lee.

At the time the amendment to end slavery was passed (the emancipation proclamation did not free anyone...read carefully, interpret literally) most of the Democrat controlled southern representation was barred from voting. Georgia was the last state readmitted to the union and not until 1879!

The congress that "came together" was a Republican dominated congress. Democrats fought a war to keep slavery and almost fought a war to keep segregation and prevent voting rights. She would still be a slave if Dems had their way.

This is an equal opportunity thread and I am taking the well earned opportunity to equally slam and hold accountable the brits and dutch for their damage to my and my wife's ancestors, which is the reason we are not successful and rich powerful landowners who rightly deserve to own palaces in our original countries.

My comments about Sheila Jackson were only to demonstrate the difficulty of creating a donut-shaped district (well OK a donut with a bite removed on the east side) so that her poor oppressed electorate can be and have an opportunity to be represented in Congress. My comment on Greenspoint was simply to highlight the progress that this representation has made for the previously noted electorate. Good job.

NOTE: Sheila Jackson Lee has the distinction of being one of the few in the Texas delegation (plus we live south of and barely escaped her donut kingdom which approaches but barely misses personal) who support the bans which earned her a seat in this thread. I will stand proudly and declare that her seat in the thread was not earned just because she is black, it was earned fairly by her misguided stance on the topic at hand.
