Does anyone have experience of flying cats from the UK/Ireland to the USA (DFW, Texas)? My parents have two cats that they want to bring with them and we are trying to work out the best route for them and if they should go via an animal transport company or with my parents when they fly over.

I have learned that London heathrow will not fly any animals out anymore which sucks. I flew my Border collie over 7 years ago when I made the move from Dublin to Chicago and to DFW and it was super easy, but when I tried to see about doing that route, the airline (American) told me that was seasonal and ended in October. I know about temperature embargos so I am sure that is what they are referring to.

Interested to hear other folks experiences :)

If they are small animals chances are your parents could bring them inside the cabin of the aircraft. If they are too big to fit under the seat, your parents might consider an animal-friendly airline such as Air France or KLM. I have traveled with my dogs several times to Europe and have always had a good experience with them.

One thing to bear in mind is that sometimes the animal transport companies are so expensive that the amount of money they charge could be best used towards the purchase of a business class or first class seat, where the animals would be more than welcome to be taken inside the cabin.

There's a stickied thread in the UK sub-forum specifically about this, with some very recent posts. You might find it useful. :)

I have cat and I am going to travel with Air France too. I called them recently to know a little bit more about this. To take a cat in the cabin, the cat and the bag together must be less than 6 kg (13.2 lb)... There are only 2 animals authorized in cabin by flight. It seems that there are no restrictions about the dates also :)

I still don't know how I'm gonna do (two cats) since I sold my house and don't know what to do with the cats after I give the keys to the new owners...
