I-797C sent to wrong address

I don't know what to do. Just spoke to someone, who spoke to their supervisor who is feeding me the exact same line. "we don't send out of the USA"

I asked if I could send in a request to change my address and she said "they won't change it because it has to be a USA address"

Well you have 2 options:

Send in an AR-11 to NBC and potentially involve the Ombudsman

or

Chance that the field office will process your case and not call you in for an interview

I looked at the AR-11 form and it says it's for change of alien address, and even asks "why are you in the country?" Which obviously I'm not in the country.

How would I even fill it out?

I'm so upset that something has already gone wrong. Future cases sent to USA relative to put in check to forward to Chicago Lockbox should just not put their return address. That way there's no way they can find a USA address to list you as.

And what do you mean, call me in for an interview? Why would they call me in?

Some field offices call in the USC for an interview before approving the case. Obviously this is the problem with putting US addresses on cases where the USC isn't in the country - there's no way they could attend the interview, and thus the case would go into limbo or could even be denied.

I really don't understand why in the world they would send your NOA1 to an address other than the one you put on the form. Do as Nola suggested and contact the ombudsman. That usually seems to help clear things up with weird problems like this one.

My husband is worried that if we contact the ombudsman that the people handling our case will get annoyed and therefore give us a harder time to get approved. Is there any truth to this?
