Hey Everyone!

I am fairly new to this forum. I recently submitted my I-129F with my Peruvian Fiancé and received my NOA1 in Feb 21, 2013 and from what I have read, will not be expecting anything else from the VSC for about 6 months. I was wondering if there are any veterans out there who might have suggestions or ideas on how they best passed their time while playing the waiting game

I have been trying to read up on the forums about all of the RFEs and stories from other applicants to stay informed, but in a way this also makes me nervous and I feel as though I may be stressing myself out over details that I cannot control.

I am a big planner and would love to just plan out everything that Wilmer and I will do when we get back to the States together, but I am almost afraid to be planing too much assuming that he will be back home with me for the holidays, as I already had a disappointment hoping we would be back in August for my family reunion. I don't want to build myself up for disappointment.

I guess basically, I think it would be nice to hear back from someone who has been through the process and what did they do to try not to drive themselves crazy.

Is there anything important that we should do with our case while we are waiting for a possible RFE/ NOA2?

What are other suggestions that you might have done to pass the time without building up the expectations for specific dates and events.

Thanks for your thoughts

Plan on about 10-12 months overall and you'll be about right.

Continue to communicate and focus on when they arrive in the US....there's a ton of stuff to do when they arrive and you can get a jump on it now.

NEVER check case status updates for any reason.

Every day, do something to prepare for your fiancee's new LIFE in America. All the things you do easily every day will be difficult for them. Prepare, plan, execute. Work on LIFE. The visa is nothing, it is just the price of admission. After that you have a LIFE to live. Prepare for it. What would you do if you were going to move from Florida to California in 5 months? THAT times 10, plus learn English well.

I push the check case status button about a hundred times every time I'm at my desk.

That and check Vj, Igor list, complain about life and government.

After a while when you really start to get nuts consider moving to your fiance country, or any other idea that sounded unreasonable a few months back.

Get your paperwork ready as much as you can for the next part, daydream about your new life together, Skype each other constantly, daydream a little more, involve your partner in as much day to day stuff as you can.

I just got off Skype with my fiance, he's headed to bed. Our day consisted of me waking him at 5.30a.m then on to Skype. We discussed what I had been doing that morning (7 hour time difference) and what he was going to be doing. We looked up information on the internet regarding a sick calf we have, discussed the ordering of tractor parts, talked about his kids coming for spring break and loads of normal stuff. It's what we do each day so that I already feel part of me is there living my new life. Heck I even have a heard of six pygmy goats waiting my arrival and I am getting two calves this weekend. I will name them and pay for their feed, all from over here. There care and everything will be discussed with me.

Yea it's very hard waiting all these months and you will get upset and very down at times but just keep reminding yourself, it will all be worth it when you can spend the rest of your lives together.

Welcome fellow "Perucho". :)

I work... a lot... I always joke that I have the luxury to work looooong hours because I have no life. I am like the other obsessives checking Igor's List regularly. I don't really check my case status that much though... I try rouse as much rabble as I can here on the forums, hoping that proactive July, August and September folks will make my future whining more effective :)

I skype every day with my fiancee. Luckily I get to go down the second half of April for a couple of weeks (our son is turning a year old and I want to be at his first birthday party).

Its hard to say, I am somewhere between 7 and 8 months. No end in sight either. But luckily I am currently living/working in China with her. However, we would like to know when we can go back together.

Why are people who applied after me also getting approved?! Whose #### do I need to kiss to get ahead around here?! I hate being so helpless!!

Thanks for all of your replies everyone! It's nice to have a support system like this during this nail biting process. I am lucky enough to still be in Peru with my sweetheart, but only for about 5 more months. We will hopefully only have 2 or 3 months apart. It seems that the VSC has lowered their processing times to 5 months....Do you think we can trust those figures?

I am currently serving in the Peace Corps and will be COSing soon so I know that I will have a lot to do getting my own life together as well as preparing for him. It is a very exciting time in our lives and I am just trying to balance the enjoying the last few months of my PC service, preparing for my life, preparing for his big life change, getting things in order financially and on top of all of that, preparing for the wedding. I love multi-tasking and planning ahead, but this is definitely the most extreme case I've ever lived.

It's great to hear from other Peruvians couples! :)

How nice that you will be able to be there for your sons birthday!

I would love to hear how things advance for you

I plan on trying to work a lot when I do get back to the US in August, as well as visit with some friends and family that I haven't seen in two years. Thanks for the advice and good luck!!

I'm sorry, man. You're right. If I can't be patient and be separated from my family for a year or more, we were just not meant to be together. I'll pipe down now.

Relax, that was a poor attempt on that guy's part at being facetious. But people who hop up and down and foam at the mouth about waiting for a year [tops] being away from their loved one makes me wonder how strong that love is. Seriously in the grand scheme of things it is NOT a big deal. I'm probably going to be waiting a whole lot longer than all of you because of where my fiance is from. I've accepted that and just resigned myself to the fact that he will get here and we will both have forged a stronger relationship from sticking together despite being apart. Complaining isn't going to get a faster approval. All it does is up one's blood pressure.

Gary has great advice. Plan for your SO's arrival. It's not an easy transition for anyone and your support can make or break it.
