SSN question

I've seen conflicting answers about this on this website...my fiance arrived last week on a K-1 visa. Can she get a SSN now or do we have to wait until after we're married and apply for AOS?

Do it now. What matters is to get a SS number because it stays the same for her whole life. She can't work right now, and will have to wait for her EAD or green card in order to work. So she can return to the SSA office later to update her name (if she will change it after your marriage) on her SS card at that time.

Be aware that you need to let the SSA know if your immigration status change. So she will have to return there when she receives her green card so the SSA know that she is a permanent resident.

Agreed. I waited about 10-12 days to ensure my fiancee (now asawa!) would be in the USCIS entry database. Got her her SSN in maiden name. A few days after our marriage we went back and simply changed her name on the SSN. Her I-94 was still valid so it was easy.
