me too, jess... love that double apple! there's also a "hookah cafe" in new orleans that i go to and dance at sometimes and they have the most amazing mixes of sheesha there... just divine! I love dancing there b/c I always splurge on a fabulous hookah/sheesha flavor mix. Also, last time I went they had these cool floating lights in the hookah that flickered off & on when you smoke! Kinda like a little liteshow while you smoke :P

Just another morning at work with our admin sending me those stupid e-mails that say send to so many people or you'll have bad luck and she's so afraid of bad luck she forwards them! Actually one was pretty good so I thought I'd share it. I used to read these and laugh at them, now I read them and relate. Guess that means I'm old. What makes me really happy is knowing that I am spending my life with someone who knows these things about me, and loves me anyway.

I've seen two shows lately that went on and on about how mid-life is a great time for women. Just last week Oprah had a whole show on how great menopause will be . . . Puhleeeeeeeze! I've had a few thoughts of my own and would like to share them with you. Whether you are pushing 40, 50, 60 (or maybe even just pushing your luck), you'll probably relate.

Mid-life is when the growth of hair on our legs slows down. This gives us plenty of time to care for our newly acquired mustache.

In mid-life women no longer have upper arms, we have wing spans. We are no longer women in sleeveless shirts, we are flying squirrels in drag.

Mid-life is when you can stand naked in front of a mirror and you can see your rear without turning around.

Mid-life is when you go for a mammogram and you realize that this is the only time someone will ask you to appear topless.

Mid-life is when you want to grab every firm young lovely in a tube top and scream, "Listen honey, even the Roman empire fell and those will too."

Mid-life brings wisdom to know that life throws us curves and we're sitting on our biggest ones.

Mid-life is when you look at your know-it-all, cell-phone carrying teenager and think: "For this I have stretch marks?"

n mid-life your memory starts to go. In fact the only thing we can retain is water.

Mid-life means that your Body By Jake now includes Legs By Rand McNally -- more red and blue lines than an accurately scaled map of Wisconsin.

Mid-life means that you become more reflective . . . You start pondering the "big" questions. What is life? Why am I here? How much Healthy Choice ice cream can I eat before it's no longer a healthy choice?

But mid-life also brings with it an appreciation for what is important. We realize that breasts sag, hips expand and chins double, but our loved ones make the journey worthwhile. Would any of you trade the knowledge that you have now, for the body you had way back when? Maybe our bodies simply have to expand to hold all the wisdom and love we've acquired. That's my philosophy and I'm sticking to it!

Abdel got hurt at work yesterday. They were cleaning a silo and the lead man forgot to turn off the fan before he stuck the cleaning rod up in it. The fan shot the rod back out and it smacked Abdel in the arm. If it had hit him straight on it would have impaled him. He had x-rays at the emergency room and got some good pain killers, and was back at work today. His arm is swollen pretty big and there was a small spot where it broke the skin on impact, but no broken bones thank goodness. He said his whole body was pretty shaken up though because when the rod hit him it threw him. What was really terrible - they made him pee for a drug test before they even moved him from the spot, and he wasn't even the one that did something wrong, he was just an innocent bystander. He said he felt like they would have told him "wait, you can't die yet, we have to do the drug test first!" He also said that while he was laying there in the pile of sugar in terrible pain all he could think of was watching our cat die Monday night and thinking that now it was his turn. Needless to say last night was lots of holding and I love yous. There's something about a close call with death that makes you really thankful for the one you love.

I didn't hear it called hubley bubley until I met a woman from lebanon while I was in Cairo for a dance festival . . . she said "let's go down to the Khan to find a place for hubley bubley" . . . I was going "what??" Here's a pic at the El Fishawi in the Khan el Khallili.DSC00502.jpg

One woman is from Morocco and the other from Lebanon.

Back in the days of hippies (OK, and when you go to head shops now, I think) they called them water pipes (smoking the other tobacco).

Water pipe, shisha, hubley bubley, hookah, nargileh . . . lots of smokin' going on around here!! :P
