Hello Folks

Can anyone tell me what to do. My wife arrived in USA and we applied for social security 10 business day after she arrived, they gave us one paper show acknowledgement that we applied for social security number in that letter the indicate they have to verify our 1-55 Greencard visa on her passport with DHS and indicate that it will take 4 weeks to verify, but my sister inlaw applied for her own and got her own social security 4 days after she arrived together with my wife. We applied on March 11, 2013 and we havent get her social security number in Mail. Eventhou DHS asked us to pay $165 for Processing fees of her greencard. I want to know does this greencard affect the social security card not issues? Can anyone clarify this issue for me please. Tell me what to do.

Thanks

Same thing happened to us the other day.

My wife applied for her SSN after receiving her EAD.

They told us they could not verify her status and it may take up to 4 weeks.

I been searching online and I guess this happens often with most people

receiving their SS card in about 2 weeks. Hopefully that'll be the case for us.

Go back to the SSA office and apply again. If the person has trouble looking up your wife up in the SAVE data base using her name, have them try using the A# that is on the GC. Then you will know that there is a problem with her name as entered in the SAVE database. For example: the IRS typed my wife's lastname with an "I" instead of a "U". It was fixed the next year when we filed electronically. It was the IRS' mistake as I checked the return and I spelled it correctly. So it does happen that someone hits the wrong letter and the name is not correct and then cannot be found later on.

Good luck,

Dave
