for the time being you can have a break... if it is a conditional one you will have to remove the conditions before the two years is up. If it is a LPR card then in 3 years you can apply for citizenship or in 10 years renew your card.

thanks dear, my card is lpr and expires in 2016 can i can out of country and then come back please comment on this,, coz i might have to go out of usa for some business purpose when can i go and how long i can stay out of country

for just regular business trips then you shouldnt have any problems... for longer trips look into this page on a re entry permit;

If you are only going for a month or two.. then no you don't need a re-entry permit.

10/27/2006 - Case received at CSC

11/09/2006 - E-mail recevied from CRIS saying AOS Approved and welcome notice mailed.

11/14/2006 - An approval letter mailed.

11/15/2006 - Green Card Received !!

March 11- mailed out AOS to chicago

March 31- I-485 touched.

April 3- got letter in mail saying Initial interview on May 15.

interview came way too fast..

approved 2 yr card on july 2007

Feb10 - mailed out I-751 to CSC

Feb20 - did biometrics

waiting waiting waiting for the 10 year card......................................
