So I saw the bizarre foods thread, and I figured it'd be a nice idea to get some actual recipes going, various cultures and whatnot, could be interesting? I've recently taken up cooking 'real' food to train myself for my eventual living with a partner, can't live off noodles and toast when there's someone else to feed!

So I guess I'll start with something nice and basic from a breakfast I made. It was a cinnamon french toast with a cream cheese drizzle, easy to make, but it was fairly delicious.

Ingredients:

1 Egg

3 Slices Bread

Cinnamon

Cream Cheese

Icing/Powdered Sugar

Double Cream

1. Break the egg into a bowl and whisk.

2. Mix in cinnamon to taste (I used 1tsp)

3. Heat a little oil/butter in a pan.

4. Soak the bread into the whisked egg mix, then place into the pan.

5. Cook for 2-5 minutes or until golden brown, then flip and repeat. Continue this until both sides are golden brown.

6. Mix some cream cheese and double cream in a small bowl (Amount depends on how much you want.)

7. Add icing sugar to taste/desired thickness.

8. Drizzle on top of cooked french toast. And Enjoy!

So this was also the very first recipe I've written, so I hope it was great. I look forward to hearing and trying some more interesting ones than mine.

My wife just starts cooking. Many dishes she makes don't even have a name, she just starts throwing things together and out comes good food. Her soups are the same, just starts throwing things in the pot and out comes a great soup. Like last night, there was pork, potatoes, red and orange bell peppers, onions and who knows what else thrown into a fry pan and cooked up. I saw her adding a little water and flour to it, plus numerous spices. It tasted fantastic and is going to be my lunch today to. I asked her what it was called and she said she doesn't know, she just made it up. I told her she has to start naming her dishes so I can ask for them again. A while later she came to me and said she gave it a name, Ambot. Which translated to English means "I don't know"

She also made a great soup, small pork ribs, bok choy, ginger and spices.

I got this recipe from my former son-in-law from Australia

Self-Saucing Chocolate Pudding

This was a real hit with our family. The surprising result is a chocolate bread pudding complete with it's own chocolate sauce.

Pudding:

2 oz (4 T) butter

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 cup self-rising flour

1 T cocoa

1/2 cup milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Sauce: (double if you want more sauce--recommended!)

1/2 cup sugar

1 T extra cocoa

1 1/2 cups hot water

Directions:

Cream butter with sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add egg, beat well.

Fold in sifted flour and cocoa alternately with milk.

Place mixture into greased ovenproof dish (you will need a dish at least 9" in diameter and 4" deep). To create sauce, sift sugar and cocoa over the top of the pudding mixture. Pour hot water over gently (try gently pouring water over a spoon so you don't wash away the sugar/cocoa mixture from the top of the pudding).

Bake in 350 degree oven for 35 to 45 minutes. Serve hot with vanilla ice cream or cool to room temperature. Serves 4 to 6.
