Can our friend visit from Jordan?

My husband's best friend (who is also my dear friend that I met when I've visited Jordan) would like to visit after his college graduation in May. He has a job waiting for him starting in September 2013, and he'd like to spend the summer with us.

He doesn't even want to apply for the visa. He says that he will get denied because he is a young single male. Is this true? Is there any way for him to get an approval? I told him if he got a letter on company letterhead from his future employer, that it might help, but he's unconvinced. Maybe he's right, but I knew that this was the place to come to ask...

That sucks. We miss him and he misses us. For us to travel to Jordan means multiple tickets, because we have kids. For him, it's one. :'(

If he wants to visit then he has to apply for a visa and see what happens. He is running it tight anyway even if he was successful.

He fears a denial would mean that he would have a lessor chance of getting a student F1 visa in the future. He wants to work for 2-5 years in Jordan and then apply to US universities for his graduate education. I don't know if this is a valid fear or not.

If he wants to visit then he has to apply for a visa and see what happens. He is running it tight anyway even if he was successful.

A B visa denial is not a bar from entry, it's a decision made by a consular officer, based on the applicant's situation at that given point in time. If an unemployed, single 21 year old from Jordan is denied on Monday, but is married and wins the lottery on Tuesday, the embassy will take a whole new look at a new application on Wednesday. In essence - a denial today for a B visa today may have some impact on a future F-1 application, but my guess is it will be minimal given that his time frame for applying is 2 - 5 years into the future.

As far as his chances for a B visa today, a single, young male from a MENA country will have very slim chances of overcoming the CO's law-mandated presumption of immigrant intent.

 I have seen other young Jordanian men and women get visitors visas with ties the their country. The most they can do is say no.

<div>I am not convinced Jordan is high on the list of high fraud countries. The quality of life is pretty good there, much better than other middle eastern countries, and really no political unrest. It is very westernized and liberal as Muslim countries go. I have never seen one single denial out of Amman on these boards for a K-1 or CR-1, with the exception of one couple several years ago denied for a K-1, but that was because they weren't prepared for the process. They got married and were approved a year later.</div>

Jordan is not high-fraud. Their adjusted refusal rate for B2 visas was over 30% last year, though. http://www.travel.state.gov/pdf/FY12.pdf

He won't know if he doesn't try, and having a denied B2 will not hurt him for future visas.

UPDATE: Our friend has his tourist visa interview in two weeks. I will update his experience for those from Jordan interested in applying for tourists visas.

If he can demonstrate strong ties to his country and enough funds to cover his trip, he might be successful. Some people assume that having someone in the US to take care of them is an advantage in the eyes of US consulates abroad, it is actually a disadvantage because it is seen as incentive to overstay in USA.

What they really care about is having strong ties to his country. The assumption is that "every visitor to USA is a possible immigrant", so presenting the evidence to argue that one doesnt intend to overstay in USA lies with the applicant.

Among the ties that they care about, we find: owning property (real estate), having immediate family in Jordan, good job in Jordan, bank statements of the past few months or even years, having traveled outside of Jordan before (especially traveling to countries that attract immigrants and still came back to Jordan) etc etc the more ties he shows, the better.

But as someone noted above, a freshly graduated single jobless male fits the profile of a potential immigrant.

He has nothing to lose though. It wont hurt him at all if he decides to pursue a different visa in the future.

Agree with this. It usually seems to be a big plus for younger applicants with no property to have held and abided by prior visas to the UK, Schengen area, Australia etc. Or at least so I've gathered from countless posts on here.

Agree with this. It usually seems to be a big plus for younger applicants with no property to have held and abided by prior visas to the UK, Schengen area, Australia etc. Or at least so I've gathered from countless posts on here.

He is young at 24, but he does have a decent amount in the bank for his age by Jordanian standards ($20K USD) and owns an investment property (apartment building). He's worked part time during college and has a full time job offer from the same employer starting in the fall. He's travelled, but only to Saudi Arabia and the UAE. I guess we will just see what happens. We hope to see him. :)
