The preacher specifically says that "It is not possible to simply do what the Bible says. We must first make decisions about what it means at this time, in this place, for these people.". What part of that do you not understand that you respond with two select literal quotes from that Bible? There are other quotes in that same Bible that contradict what these quotes appear to suggest. Context is everything. The preacher gets it. You should try and maybe you'll get it, too.

What *you* said was that I wanted to kill all homosexuals.. right?

I know what he said, I read it before I commented the first time.. Kinda like you didn't and after saying something extremely stupid went to look to cover your tracks instead of apologizing for saying something so rotten for no purpose other than to attack another individual. Awesome.

He picks and chooses the parts of the bible he likes based on his personal beliefs and ignores the parts he does not like. That is pointless. He could do the same with almost any book be it from Marx or Hitler. If your personal beliefs run completely opposite of the bible it is not interpretation it is hypocrisy - DROP the bible because it is not compatible. No big whoop.

The guy saying different doesn't give it any relevance, it just means that he is wrong.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

Q: Why is it these so-called block-buster mega pasters are always so big, no one outside of his town knows who he even is?

I certainly never heard of the guy... but maybe Steve has some of his C-D's.

Q How can anyone take this guy serious when he belongs to a denomination which has been torn in half over this very issue, wasn't this the Eugene Robins Church.... you remember him, the Gay guy who left his wife for a boy friend and then they made him a Bishop?

It is so bad that many in that denomination are merging with the Catholic Church, even the Priest (who are allowed to remain married).

So here is this guy, ...a populist preacher, sending out false teachings from a ship that is going down as he speeds it along.

If he is the "next Billy Graham" the Church is in serious trouble, and I suppose he needs to get his PR people going because everyone knew billy Graham, I bet not 2% of the people know who this guy is.

That anyone would deny that the Bible is very clear on certain sins is silly, if you think Homosexuality can "evolve" out of being a sin, why can't adultery or stealing?

IT is condemned in both the New and Old Testaments in the clearest of language.

-Homosexuality is not an "ultimate sin" or some some unpardonable offense it is a sin like every other. The only reason this one is interesting is because no one claims that lying is not a sin.

In every Instance in the Bible of Jesus interacting with peeps, those who turned away from their sins found a forgiveness and a new life. (a changed life),

The women who was about to be stoned for Adultery followed Christ to his death (more loyal than his Disciples).

Consider the two thieves on the crosses Next to Jesus, one admitted his guilt and humbled himself...and the other mocked. One found paradise that day.

IF you think about it, there is a logic to "why" something is sin, they are not just arbitrary laws. Sin is destructive, sometimes not to ourself but to others and because this dynamic never changes sins never evolve into healthy things.

Proverbs 16

but its end is the way to death.b

Show me... or do you just continuously make false accusations when you lose an argument?

Right there is where you are selective quoting the Bible to support your argument.

From the bible:

"Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable." (Leviticus 18:22 NIV)

“If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." (Leviticus 20:13 NIV)

Maybe somebody can guide us through the logic of interpreting these statements into supporting gay marriage...

Why don't you show me where Jesus has said that in order to achieve eternal life one may not be homosexual. So why would those claiming to be followers of Christ be hating on homosexuals when the very Christ they claim to follow would not ever support but rather condemn that hatred?

The Bible documents several accounts where Jesus gave advice on how to achieve eternal life. Show me one account where Jesus said that one may not be homosexual if one wants to achieve eternal life in God's kingdom. Good Luck!

Luke 10:

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[c]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d]”

28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

Luke 18:

18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.

Matthew 19:

16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”

17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”

18 “Which ones?” he inquired.

Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’[c] and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’[d]”

20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”

21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

Thank you for keeping on topic..

There are a lot of things I could bring up where Jesus has no account.. None of the quotes you supplied have anything to do with being gay.. there *are* direct quotes about being gay, they would seem to be the important ones when talking about this issue - none of them are positive and actually give instructions as to what to do.. Why should they be ignored?

I'll go back to my original post.. I like what they guy is saying, I think his message is good. I don't like that he uses it to push a book that has in it quotes that say the exact opposite.

How do those with faith get past the direct quotes about gay people? Do you think those quotes are wrong and should be removed? The belief, the book, or the message has to change - they directly conflict.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

Yeah I thought the Billy Graham comment was a bit much - the press making news.

I was not able to find any quotes in the new testament directly against homosexuals or the act - just general remarks about deviant sexual acts.. that would certainly be open to interpretation

Should Christians then still kill adulterers?

Deuteronomy 22:22 "If a man is found sleeping with another man's wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die."

Leviticus 20:10 "If a man commits adultery with another man's wife--with the wife of his neighbor--both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death."

Of course not. The answer to the question is what the Evangelical Pastor said: "It is not possible to simply do what the Bible says. We must first make decisions about what it means at this time, in this place, for these people."

Proverb from the gospel of Jesus...

There was a girl from Nantucket, who shed two tears, in a bucket, on her way to, oh well, Phuket.

Evangelical subculture that was told 'we're gonna change the thing' and they haven't.

Apologies, Bush's Faith-Based-Initiatives with the Christian Coalition died a horrible death.

Since it's dead, the coffers are needing to be refilled.

It makes sense to get different demographics, for Church donations, now.

Good on Bell for focusing on this.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Do you mean that religion is all about the Benjis; not about the Jesis?
