Your ssn is not required to file AOS, you need to apply for your own ssn at the ssn office aprox 2 weeks after entry using your passport and I-94.

Moved from K-1 forums to adjustment of status forums as this is an adjustment of status question and issue.

Thanks,

Ok, Ive been here for a month now. When we signed our marriage certificate I changed my name to his last name. they attached a SNN change of name form.

So when I go get my SNN I get it with His last name, my married last name???

You should be able to, bring your marriage certificate with you when you go. Brought mine and they issued the ssn in my married name.

GREAT, thanks. This was kind of confusing for me since I asked the guy at the embassy and he said no, but then I kept reading stuff about people getting their SNN prior to filling AOS.

Yea the SSN is not something that just magically arrives for you as a K-1 entrant. You need to apply for it yourself. The person may have confused the fact that the CR-1 entrants often do get their SSN in the mail without having to apply for it because of a notation on the forms for them.

So when I get my SNN, then am I allowed to work or not? or I have to wait till my AOS gets processed?

You need to wait for the EAD or the green card to be processed, you will get the EAD faster than the green card most likely so make sure you put the forms in for the employment card. They are listed in the AOS guide in the guide section.
