they see what kind of Facebook status updates and photos show up in that 10 month period, then they determine if your fiancee is fit to be an American.

(i hope people realize, i'm 100% bullshitting. but that 5 month waiting period after NOA1 is supposed to be the FBI background check.)

It took me less than 6 months to get a TS/TK clearance. That background check is nigh instantaneous unless there are some serious red flags. The median should be way faster.

In a way this is weird because last year when we got our K1 from CSC, everybody was complaining that CSC was too quick and that VSC was dragging their feet. The tables have turned.

The new procedures are as follows:

NOA1 = we took your money without a moment of hesitation, and we did nothing else with your application

NOA2 = we finally spent the 15 minutes it took to complete your application after making you wait 10 months after telling you we will take 5 months

Thank you for using USCIS, and please come again

Compare this to the proposal of several senators to eliminate the K-1 entirely.

As they said, there is simply too much fraud associated with this visa category. Americans who intend to marry foreign nationals are free to do so, but making the effort to get married abroad testifies to the legitimacy and seriousness of the relationship. Couples can always have a second ceremony or reception in the United States once the foreign spouse receives his or her immigrant visa.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Just got our NOA 2 last night at 11:15 pm via email. AUG 2 NOA 1 date. The day after I make a flippant comment. Go figure...

Wow! Congrats! I thought there is no point in checking the status compulsively after 6 pm. Maybe they have night shifts at scs now to go through the boxes of petitions  I would be more than happy to help

NOA1 - 2012/08/22

240 days later - day of my dreams - NOA2 2013/04/19
