Hi guys,

I plan to send some of my things to the US by snail mail. I always thought that sending packages by Meest was the cheapest way possible, but when i called Meest in my city they told me that they send packages only by air, 1 kg is 6,20$, and that they also charge 35$ for my package to be delivered in the US. When I added all the costs up, it came up with a price that it bigger that sending out the package by a regular Ukrainian postal services. Can that be true, or i am miscalculating something. I still can't believe Ukrainian postal service may be cheaper than Meest. I sent packages by Meest from the US and it was considerably cheaper. Thanks!

We called Meest in NJ and got one price and was given a local address in FL that we could take the package to. Well guess what the local cost was almost triple what it would be if we sent it by FED-EX to Meest in NJ. SO yea your local post office may be cheaper. Better yet check with some of the Airlines flying in and out of Ukraine you may find a cheaper and faster way.

Oh, really? We sent a package from NC to NJ via FedEx for free( meest representative in NC told us Meest had a contract with FedEx for free delivery to their main office). The whole package from the US via Meest was twice cheaper than it would have been via USPS. Go figure. But it was shipped to Ukraine by the sea from the main office in NJ.

Meest used to be cheapest. We sent a lot of Alla's things by them in 2008, including a lot of books but it was by "slow boat" not by air. Since then we have used the Ukrainian post and had no problems sending things OUT of Ukraine. We are still in the process of "moving" since we still have a flat in Donetsk and each visit Alla finds things she needs to send.

Yeah, the last time we used meest was last winter from the US. As you say, by slow boat;) But they told me that they send only by air from Ukraine, and there is no option of shipping by sea. I don't get why it is that way that u have two options of sending out packages from the US ( air or sea)and only one from Ukraine. Oh well... I'll just send my package by regular postal services then. And the closest USPS office is 10 min away from my fiance's house, while the closest Meest representative in an hour away drive.

Soft goods, clothes, etc. can be bagged in canvas bags and the address written on the bag. We have sent some HUGE bags  In fact the local post office usually just leaves a note in the mailbox for us to pick it up, they do not attempt to fit it in the mail car.

How did you ensure nobody opening that canvas bag on its way to the US? And how did you attach the address to it? That's a nice idea, never thought of it before.

I had packages that were sent to me from Ukraine using regular mail. Arrived in a bit more than a week. No problems whatsoever. Didn't try sending anything big or heavy though. It's much faster sending from Ukraine to US than from US to Ukraine for some reason.
