  1. 1. Have you ever heard of Yellow Dot before?

  2. 2. Do you agree with the general idea that all programs should be run at the most local level possible?

Gov. Chris Christie has conditionally vetoed bill S-71 that would have established a New Jersey Yellow Dot Program.

Yellow Dot programs existing in 20 states are designed to provide emergency responders with health and emergency contact information in crash situations. Participants place yellow dot decals on the rear window of their vehicles, alerting emergency personnel to check the glove compartment for the information.

Christie in his conditional veto message Monday said the state shouldn’t be involved and that Yellow Dot programs should be left to towns and counties.

Mount Laurel already has its own program, Christie says, and it’s “provided without taxpayer expense through nonprofit funding.’

The bill is being returned to the Legislature with language to make it conducive for localities to establish their own Yellow Dot program.
