I'm at a loss.. sometimes, this seems so hopeless.. yet I still hold on and fight.. because I love him so much and know my life is better and happier because of him..

Do any of you feel this way?

I feel reluctant to speak on a public forum.. but I would love to privately talk to someone if I could :(

Young lady, I don't think that there is a single person that has gone through the immigration process with a S/O that doesn't understand your frustrations or has not felt the same way at as you do one time or another. The nice thing about the public forums is that it allows you to vent your frustrations, and discuss your issues anonymously with others that can empathize with you. Also speaking for myself, I have gotten a lot of good advice and different opinions from people on the boards that have helped me to get through the "rollercoaster ride".

It ok to talk. It's a public forum but our identities are as private as we wish to keep them. Talking helps. As for myself, I don't think I ever felt hopeless, but I did cry many times. I look back and remember when only one box was colored in on me and hubby's timeline...NOA1, and I thought....we have such a LONG ways to go. Now we are almost done. Hang in there.

It's such an unexpected situation, as we were not even looking for love, and certainly didnt expect to find it with one another! We are going to have hard times ahead, because of our age difference.. I am older than him.. I have a divorce thats finalizing.. plus I have two toddlers. He, on the other hand, has not been married, nor does he have any children. We've met in person.. last year. We spent a week together.. and by the time we get to see each other again, we would have spent 9 months apart. I am going to see him for three months in a few months time, then I am bringing him back here with me for three months, then going back with him.. we feel that we need to do this, not only because we dont want to be apart, but because we are going to have a hard time proving our relationship is genuine.. we think that if we can show we have gone to these lengths, and spent all of that time together before starting our paperwork.. that it may be to our favor.

I'm just.. scared of having our whole future, our whole relationship, depending on whether or not the people looking at our case believe us. We have family and friends who can verify it real, many photos together (from when we met, and screenshots on skype, haha!) I was thinking of adding him to my bank account when he's here, and us getting a life insurance policy together.. would these things be to our advantage or is the age thing really an issue? I have heard its generally no problem if the man is older, but many problems come up if the woman is older :(

And thank you all for your replies.. you've made me feel welcome and not so alone :)

Age is rarely an issue except in countries where there has been fraud from it. I wouldn't worry about it at all for Australia. My husband is 4 years younger than me. My ex was 10 years older. Age, imvho, is a number. It can show you a basic reason for the maturity level in a person but should never be taken for more than a guideline.

I'm not sure if you guys are going through a visa process or not. Remember he's from a Visa Waiver Program country so he doesn't need a visa to visit the USA. But I know the expense can be huge from there for flights, etc... But I think you have to stop trying to prove you have a genuine relationship and just have one. He's an Aussie, he's not from a place with a difficult consulate. Find out if this is the person you want to be with forever, but stop worrying about who you have to prove it to. Be natural together and happy. Just enjoy each other's company. It'll be okay ;)

I want to add that I have a 10 year old daughter. My husband has never had any children and never intended to. It was the cause for many fights with his ex. So it was a bit of a surprise to him to fall in love with someone who does have a child. Further more to love that child like his own.

It is difficult, but having a place like this with everyone going through similar situations is very helpful. We weren't looking for love when we met, and he had been a very part time father as his daughter lived with her mother full time. I have three kids. I think the best advice I have seen in this thread is to stop trying to prove the relationship and just have one. We met in person in September 2011 then didn't see each other in person again until July 2012. We don't have the distance you do but finances and family make it difficult to travel alot.

Let it all out and soak in the support. That's what we are all here for.
