I'm about to file for AOS for my wife's son. I'm filling out the forms and they ask for an alien registration number. In his passport is a number which is identical to the one assigned to his mother. He came later on her K-1 visa and now is here permanently.

My question is do I list his mother's number on the application forms or leave it blank. Her number is the same as assigned on her green card and I guess that he would be getting his own number. But, with the information listed in his passport (it's on the I-94 also) it looks like I should list that number on the forms.

Has anyone come across this? I know that he was allowed to come here as a result of his mothers visa, but I would think he should have his own alien registration number. Just couldn't find this in the guides, so I wonder if anyone has come across this problem before.

Thanks for any help.

No, it just has A plus the number. It is written into his passport where they stamped it upon arrival in San Francisco and also on the I-94. It is hand written but the number is identical to his mother's.

I was wondering since PA would stand for Principal Alien. Now our daughter didn't have anything wrtten on her I-94 and since an A# is only assigned to one person I would lean toward writing "NONE" on the application for the child. I guess others will chime in.

If I remember correctly, and it was 4 years ago now that my daughter and son came in as K-2's, they didn't get an A# until they received the Receipt Notice from the USCIS for their AOS application. So, I would write NONE in the box.

Our journey started in 2001 and it's still not over. It's been a rollercoaster ride all the way! Let me off - I wanna be sick!
