August 13, John Sinclair and the Motor City Blues Scholars, featuring Erich Goebel, Chris Rumel & myself (RJ). This was a special Eastside Edition of Blues Scholars. We also had the wonderful Phil Hale on keys, which is always a plus. Erich started out by doing short set on top with Chris and Phil. Erich played a cool vintage hollow body guitar for this set and the next one, where I joined them in backing our Big Chief, John Sinclair. I am guessing that most of you reading this will know the basic stuff about John, but if you don't, here is a thumbnail sketch:

John was a radical in the 60's, founding the White panther Party in Ann Arbor. He went on the manage the MC5 and co-found the Ann Arbor Blues & Jazz Festival, a ground breaking event, nationally. He was a political prisoner for marijuana rights and John Lennon wrote a tune in favor of freeing him from incarceration. John is an author and poet and has edited several national magazines. He was a DJ in Detroit and in New Orleans for many years. He currently lives in Amsterdam so this was a rare chance to hang with him and lots of folks did just that.

We mixed up some of John's Blues poems and some of his Jazz poems. We had Vicky and her friend David from Indiana blowing their saxes which was fun. Later in the night we opened things up for jamming with James Cloyd joining us on bass & vocals, which is always very fun. Chef Chris got up and sang a few, including a request for "Pee in a Cup" by Cub Koda which went over great. Terry Thunder was on drums for this part of the festivities. Buddy Smith sang a slow Blues and killed it as usual.

I am not familiar with the "Pee in a Cup" but I found this info and maybe it will lead to your song. Not many hits for a search on "pee in a cup" and mc5.
