Not in the sense that the term "civil rights" gained it's meaning during the 1950's and 1960's.

And this is what I meant, I am not saying the 2nd amendment isn't important. I just mean there has got to be a way to reduce gun violence and not step on people toes about it.

When I think civil rights, I mean being treated as equals among with the rest of society. That is why I didn't want to argue with you.

“Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.” – Coretta Scott King

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

very well I will use a different term from now on - civil liberties.

Freedom of Speech is not always the best example for the gun rights crowd to use as an example. Individual speech is restricted on a regular basis, as is the right to assemble. Even civil rights champions in the hierarchy of the new Democratic Party, had no qualms about confining outside demonstrations during their convention, to a distant and confined location, hoping to avoid any semblance to the turmoil of the 1968 Chicago convention, by which those same folks gained control of the party in 1972.

As are gun rights, though I would draw attention to the fact that in regards to speech its regulated in the when and where and not in the method of delivery.

But the gun crowd doesn't want any restrictions. Many of the most adamant nutters want to give everybody the right to carry in any manner, any firearm, anywhere, in any jurisdiction. The problem with most issues, is they are defined by the extremists on both ends of the spectrum.

It is also restricted in the how and what. For instance, you cannot disclose restricted material to a third party for publication, if you are a corporal in the military.

I'd put that one under the government / military. Under that umbrella rights are restricted further. Its the one area of our society that a citizen does not have full rights - or at least seems that way to me.

Typically, the right to property trumps the freedom of the press and expression. You have the expressed right to be secure in your papers via the Fourth Amendment, and from copyright infringement, via Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8, of the Constitution.

1. States can limit access to Felons

I'm not being a pain, but if #1 above is true, then why are felons in possession of a firearm prosecuted under federal law?

I'm not 100% sure. The person who would know was banned recently.

Ohh Yeah. I remember him mentioning that. I think his neighbor was a judge and somehow gave him his rights back. Never mind then. Was just curious.
