The word we are looking for here is compromise. Both sides need to, in order to get any more leg room.

Political compromise in this country seems to be a thing of the past. Both sides are so terrified of the extremists in their respective parties, they can't compromise, or it will be held against them until the day they die. That's why this two-party system and 2 year long election campaigns are bull$hit.

I know what you mean, Chris Cristie is feeling that crunch right now. All because he complimented the President on handling the disaster.

That's a perfect example right there. From what I've seen of Chris Cristie so far, I really like. I think he would have a good shot at winning a general election. But guess what? He'll never ever get the Republican nomination. The campaign ads in the primaries will be filled of photos with him shaking hands with Obama and thanking him for Federal aid. He committed political suicide by doing that.

The Democrats are no better. It'll be the same with them in 2016.

No easy answers. Both sides have a point. Maybe Chris Rock was onto something with charging $1000 a bullet or whatever it was. That would probably get shot down in some court case though.

it would also be useless as people could cast their own bullets if prices got that high.

This is not nearly as bad as Kelly getting caught buying an AR15.

By the way, why was she shooting at an image of a Berkeley student?

Because it's too politically incorrect to put a picture of our real enemies for fear of offending someone

Good idea, which other part of the Bill of Rights should we compromise on next?

Well you can never have enough ammo or firepower but....

Generally compromise is when two sides want to move in the same direction but at different rates.

If you have one side which wants to ban books and the other that doesn't should they meet in the middle by banning not as many books?

If you're not content until you have enough weapons to level a city block, you might need to see someone about that.

The problem is you have those who want all guns gone(impossible)and those who want more guns(improbable), there has to be a middle ground.

Lets not confuse the situation here, no one has or is allowed to have items which would level a city block.

what we are discussing is banning commonly owned items.

In fact the AR-15 is one of the most popular guns on the market for a number of reasons..... and the more popular it gets the more it would tend to be used in crime due to the fact there are more out there.

But still, these firearms account for a small fraction of deaths and to ban them .....is to pave the road to banning other guns which *are* found at more crime scenes.

I don't know a lot of people that have AR-15's so I can't say it's a commonly owned item. I guess the logistics that are needed to mettle this out are far and in between.

No there doesn't. The notion of middle ground relating to civil rights is laughable.

I have a different vision of civil rights, so this argument to me is not feasible.

Mine is the Bill of Rights - the basis for all civil rights in this nation.

I guess owning a weapon isn't on my list of things to worry about.

This is true - hence the term basis i.e. starting point. I would not slight the others - especially the 21st :)

Well, there is nothing about civil rights in the Bill of Rights. However, there is a clause protecting the slave trade in the Constitution itself, for a period of twenty years.

Article 1 Section 9 of the United States Constitution protected the slave trade for twenty years. Only starting January 1, 1808, could laws become effective to end the slave trade.

The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year one thousand eight hundred and eight, but a tax or duty may be imposed on such Importation, not exceeding ten dollars for each Person.
