Just be honest, I'm sure you will be ok. Plenty of people come on tourist visa's which is similar to VWP, stay and then get married. It's not abnormal, they just don't like people crossing border illegally. Good luck!

Nothing to suggest a lawyer is needed, I would never say do not use one, some people like to have a lawyer involved, But most people on this site DIY.

they don't want people to come and get married with the intent to stay, even when entering legally, that is not OK, ever. The OP didn't do this, he should be fine.
