I don't see how a wife having a baby makes someone disabled. Disability insurance is for people who are actually disabled. That is the kind of benefits abuse and entitlement that is really bringing down England.

/signed a British citizen who will never live in that country

I'm sorry, but the whole thing just makes me sick. My husband knows that in Denmark, men get 6 months of paternity leave and in American, they get none. I just can't ever see him trying to milk the system like this. People should get paid only when they work and should collect disability when they are truly disabled.

How is he trying to "milk the system"? He's paid into it and claiming a benefit to which he is entitled for the exact purpose they have it. http://www.paidfamilyleave.org/

Thank You... The voice of reason! I pay taxes to help others, I also pay taxes so that when I need time off work, for disability or any reason (especially to bond with my new daughter), it's there for me, as it is for anyone in a similar situation.

Per the Ca SDI site

For California workers covered by SDI, Paid Family Leave (PFL) insurance provides up to six weeks of benefits for individuals who must take time off to care for a seriously ill child, spouse, parent, or registered domestic partner, or to bond with a new child.

So he has paid the insurance and gets the right to collect.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

my husband gets 6 weeks paternity leave with about 60% of his regular pay.. correction, it looks like he might get 100% of his pay.. he has to find out for sure though..

My husband found out for sure that he will get 100% of his pay for the 6 weeks of paternity leave. 60% from his work and the rest from the State..
