NRA chief attacks background checks

OXON HILL, Md. (AP) — The head of the National Rifle Association is attacking President Barack Obama's call for mandatory background checks for gun owners.

The NRA's Wayne LaPierre says those who favor mandatory background checks may be, quote, "insane."

LaPierre says background checks won't make schools safer. Instead, he says, the checks will let the government tax gun owners or take their weapons.

Your title is not only misleading but inflammatory, it should be rewritten.

It's one way to get a Friday night discussion going

It's what the man said.

Hmmmm.

I am anxious to see the amendments that get added, aren't you?

Politics. The fascists need to be overjoyed and the NRA needs to be angry at this point. It needs to get lots of press coverage (or you thought Wayne Lapierre was speaking under condition of anonymity?) Thank you for your contribution. The NRA campaigns as much as Obama, maybe more. Every appearance has a purpose. Membership is going through the roof, gun sales are going through the roof and donations are higher than they have been since Clinton was in office. No need to stifle that yet.

There more the better.

When the background check SYSTEM is legislated (see your other post on this topic for details) it will be to the NRA's liking who will say they "compromised" and Obama will claim victory. The NRA will get what it wants, just like it did with the Brady Act.

Please note...there is no assault weapons ban or magazine capacity restriction in the proposed legislation.

I hear ya, I have used that method myself more than once.

Has it worked? Did the mods change the title back to the original article

Different legislation than the background checks. For a reason. See me when it goes to Obama for a signature.

You got caught stating a lie. Just admit it.

Your article is about the background check legislation. Your quoted statements and misleading title is about Wayne Lapierre's comments on the background check legislation. There is no ban on assault weapons in the background check legislation. Admit it.
