Hello guys,

Please can anyone help me what next to do? My wife got her visa from our country Feb 7, 2013 and She arrived in USA Feb 22, 2013 together with my sister in law that got her own visa the same country on Jan, 8 2013. When they arrived together at Dulles Airport they collect the greencard package from them. 10 business day after my sister in law arrived USA she got her own Greencard but my wife hasnt got her own. Only got one letter Fees is in Suspense, I remember we paid the same amount when filing for both of them which was $230, When I called the USICS they told me they will mailed us after 30 days to know the next thing to do. We went to SSA and applied for SSN, SSA gave of acknowledgement letter that they will verify our immigration documents within 4weeks. Does anyone know how long it takes to get SSN? and also I dont knw what USCIS mean by Fees is in Suspense? What should I do?

Thanks y'all

Did you pay the $165 fee on the USCIS portal for green card processing? They will not send until paid.

Just like DW said. If you did not pay the USCIS $165 fee then you don't get your green card in the mail. Make sure you go pay USCIS asap. http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=3a2bb75e8109b310VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=fe529c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

WASHINGTON—On Feb. 1, 2013, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will begin collecting a new USCIS Immigrant Fee of $165 from foreign nationals seeking permanent residence in the United States. This new fee was established in USCIS’s final rule adjusting fees for immigration applications and petitions announced on Sept. 24, 2010.

USCIS has worked closely with the Department of State (DOS) to implement the new fee which allows USCIS to recover the costs of processing immigrant visas in the United States after immigrant visa holders receive their visa packages from DOS. This includes staff time to handle, file and maintain the immigrant visa package, and the cost of producing and delivering the permanent resident card.

The new $165.00 Green Card Fee must be paid on-line BEFORE the intending immigrant leaves their country (if they are out of the USA) but after they recieve their POE packet (the envelope that you are not allowed to open). You need to have your Alien Number in order to pay the fee. The Alien Number is located on the information letter attached to your sealed envelope.

"Fee in Suspense" letter is normal. It is the step that comes after the POE officer submitts your packet for the next step (processing). USCIS recieves the documents, checks that you have paid your fee, determines if you get the fee back or not, processes or refunds the fee, and then orders your green card. Whew.

It is annoying that they don't clearly let you know in the Notice of Action letters what all this means. When a word like "suspense" is used it makes people feel nervous! It is really one of the bad things about the paperwork in the immigration process. It is nerve wracking.

You can always check the status on the USCIS website with the receipt number on your Notice of Action Letter - located in the top left box of the letter.
