Much like Romney, Rob Portman is not a real Republican.

Again, luckily, 'real Republicans' have no hope for regaining the White House if they don't adjust. Fine by me.

There will be a "one man-one woman" GOP president in the next 3-4 cycles. You underestimate how little importance many Americans place on the issue of SSM. Other issues are much more important.

There is a good chance SCOTUS will take the issue off the table. Of course, the Court is just as likely to punt the issue back to the states, and diminish the ability of the courts to further intervene in what is ostensibly a Tenth Amendment issue.

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.

In any event, the argument for SSM is one of fairness. That they may be abnormal or deviant isn't really all that material.

That is what is lost of those who oppose it. It is about equal rights and fairness. However, they must turn it into a subjective issue upon which to base their bigotry.

If you make it all about fairness all arguments against marriage fail.

Social issues, as a whole, are fairly important. I've said it before, but if the 'real' Republicans wish to remain an exclusive rather than inclusive party, they're going to have a rough time.

I personally don't care if someone BELIEVES that marriage is between one man and one woman. They're entitled to believe whatever they'd like. Just don't rule the nation as if your personal and/or religious beliefs should be made into laws.

I think that by the great shift in support of 21st century issues, the GOP is beginning to demonstrate they are catching up with the times all the while realizing you need not be a klan card carrying member in order to be considered a true republican, whatever that means.

Also, consider that if they really did that they should be supportive of the notion that a man should be able to have 700 wives and 300 concubines, just like King Solomon did...

That is what the sanctity of marriage is about. It is about one man and his 700 wives and 300 concubines!

You might want to read about the history of the "klan"

The Klan is a historic part of the Democrats. One of the most notable and defining Democratic Presidents of the last century was a fervent supporter of the Klan. Republicans are historically the party of Abolition.
