One conservative's dramatic reversal on gay marriage

Sure. You're allowed to care about anything you want. Me, I don't care. I have better things to do. Like teaching James English.

Better things to do? Because caring takes up a lot of time or something? Should I be putting it on my schedule?

No. Am I only allowed to care about issues that directly affect me, though?

It might one day. I might have friends who want to get married and can't. I might have children who are gay and want to get married and can't. Even if neither of those things happen, I'll still care. I care that people are treated equally, even if I am not one of the groups being wronged.

Now come on... lets be honest -Do you mean all people or just the ones you approve of?

SHould a 45 year old man be able to marry two 15 yr olds? (with parents consent of course)

Should 3 men have this same "right" to be treated equally?

You embrace logic of social chaos ya just don't know it.

It never fails. Someone always brings up a man marrying a minor. And it's usually you.

I believe consenting adults should have the freedom to live together however they'd like to.

If they want to get married, let them. If they want to adopt and they're deemed to be responsible, able, loving people, then let them. If they want to have three people in their relationship, let them.

Live and let live if they aren't hurting anyone. It's not my cup of tea, but who am I to tell people what's right and what's wrong?

I hate to break it to you, Danno, but gay marriage is not and will not lead to "social chaos" ... I'm sorry.

That's why a conservative will never be president again. Social Issues. As long as they keep beating that 1950s drum, they'll never be in the white house again. Who really cares if homosexuals want to get married? I don't. Personally, I think it's more of a "look at me, I'm gay" thing more than anything else, but it doesn't affect my life. Same with Polygamy. Why should I care? I have enough problems dealing with one wife. If some dumba$$ wants to marry 5 women, good luck! It doesn't affect my life.

I hear ya.... Like how does my neighbor beating his wife effect me?

Or how does the pervert masturbating in the park effect us... we don't even go to the park?

How does the business dumping sewage in the waterway impact my life, I buy bottle water anyway?

So you want to change the marriage laws where only adults can marry now or maybe you think normal couples should be able to at the current legal age and everyone else must be a "consenting adult" (what ever that means)?

I fully agree with you on your one point.

<<<but who am I to tell people what's right and what's wrong? >>>

I don't think 15 year olds should be getting married, if that's what you're asking me. I'm used to "adult" meaning 18, not 21, by the way.

The difference between you and I, Danno, is that I'm not afraid of people who are living their lives differently than I am. If two men want to get married, I think "good for them" while you, on the other hand, jump to "OMG SOCIAL CHAOS" ... that must be an exhausting way to live, constantly fearing things you have no reason to fear.

You really are totally clueless! Why should it justify a 45 year old stranger sexually assaulting two 15 year old girls just because their parents were willing to be complicit in the rapes and guilty as well of child abuse/neglect!?

A minor cannot, by definition, give consent for sexual relations with an adult.

Talk about embracing social chaos!!! :bonk:

Apparently the words "consenting adult" confused him. He isn't even sure what that phrase means.

It is worrisome that he seems fixated at times on this whole issue involving 'fresh' teenagers and marriage of older men to underage girls! :help:

"I've come to the conclusion that for me, personally, I think this is something that we should allow people to do, to get married, and to have the joy and stability of marriage that I've had for over 26 years. That I want all of my children to have, including our son, who is gay," said Portman.

The entire kerfuffle over same-sex marriage is just that. Two consenting adults, joined to form a family.

I do get a laugh however, when I see that the mention of same-sex marriage brings out the most deep set sexual fantasies in perverted minds. IMHO it speaks more of their own issues than those they feign to disdain...

I'm just curious what social chaos gay marriage could possibly cause. Are other countries collapsing once they legalize it?

I sometimes wonder if people are aware of their surroundings.

This is America. Where you can marry for money, marry for fame, marry on a drunk night in Vegas, compete on television to marry someone you don't even know, AND ... the legit marriages? Half of those fail.

And yet when someone mentions gay people having the right to marry, we're suddenly concerned for this country's morals and social structure and the negative impact gay marriage will surely have on the institution of marriage.

It's about the normalization of what a large segment of society still views as abnormal and deviant behavior.

That's the issue, at its crux.

Luckily, that "large segment of society" is now the minority.
