Well it looks like Northern Mindanao is finally going to get an international airport according to this article:

New Cagayan de Oro airport lacks navigational aids

Maybe when everything is up and running there will finally a direct flight to go visit my wife's family. They live less than an hour away from the new airport, so it would be so much nicer than flying into Manila and having to catch another flight the next day!

Of course, who knows how long it will take to get the navigation equipment in and installed, then get passenger flights set up.

I hope they actually create an international airport in Bohol or build a good domestic airport in Malaybalay, Bukidnon. I don't want to have to go through MNL and although I grew up in Cebu, flying to CEB is still such an inconvenience.

I am from the same region, it's not going to be anytime soon but it will happen. The airport is done, I wonder what takes them long to operate it. There was a rumor before that they were going to operate Jan of 2013 but still kept on moving it.

It seems like there are other options to fly to Cebu other than Manila. I think you can fly from Seoul or Tokyo direct to Cebu. We will be trying to do just that on our next trip.

My husband and I took Los Angeles - Singapore - Cebu and back last year. I'm not very sure about this but I think that itinerary added three unnecessary ours or so to our flight so next time, we will pick something like Los Angeles - Tokyo/Seoul/Hongkong - Cebu. Unless of course Bohol or Cagayan de Oro opens an international airport then we'll completely skip Cebu.
