Obama: Keystone XL pipeline not major jobs creator

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has told House Republicans he's still weighing a decision on the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada to Texas. At a closed-door gathering with the Republicans on Wednesday, Obama said jobs numbers and other benefits touted by supporters are probably exaggerated, but he did not rule out a decision to approve the pipeline, according to participants.

Nebraska Republican Rep. Lee Terry said Obama appeared "conflicted" on the pipeline, saying many of the promised jobs would be temporary, and that much of the oil would likely be exported. But Terry said Obama also indicated that dire environmental consequences predicted by pipeline opponents were exaggerated.

Terry, who supports the pipeline, said he wished Obama's comments were less negative, but he was still hopeful the project would be approved.

The Chinese disagree. They buy every drop we don't, load it in ships, float it across the Pacific and burn it in unregulated facilities and create jobs AND the worst pollution on earth with it.

Great!

It is very difficult and costly to process that oil. Bitumen is a cast-iron ####### to convert to anything useful.

China doesn't care. Sure it pollutes the air but who cares? We ran our manufacturing jobs over to them and now they burn dirty oil to make our "happy meal" toys...and environmentalists WANT it that way!

Canada is already doing the hard work, in order to turn the extra heavy crude into a form that can be pumped through the pipeline. The stuff that will arrive at refineries in the US, or sent by tanker to points elsewhere, already resembles the heavy crude being produced in many parts of the US. The largest oil reserves in the world are contained in oil sands and oil shale. Venezuela is sitting on the largest of those reserves, so as long as oil stays above $60/barrel, there will be the incentive to find more efficient and less expensive ways to extract that oil. Oil used to be collected from seeps. Now they have to drill deeper and deeper. Still, we have only exploited less than half the petroleum on the planet.

Time and Timing is everything, aye?

If the stuff had been approved 18 months ago , China would not have stepped up and stepped in with a competitive bid to buy ..

I'm sorry, Mr. O - no one likes you - it's all gonna remain bipartisan for the duration of yer tenure. I know, I know, it blows, but it is what you've made it.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
