I got your pm and responded. Things have changed post-revolution. I've read it's not as easy now.

This post kind of talks about the things you may encounter such as a getting a medical prior to marriage. Link

Also I'm going to go out on a limb here, based on your prior post, and suggest that you look into an Orfi marriage in Egypt. Just Google it. It may be what you're looking for if you're not sure about the commitment but want to be with your partner on the trip.

It depends. Based on personal experience, it might or might not end on the same day. After the appointment at the embassy, you get a paper from the embassy saying that it is okay with you getting married in Egypt. After that you have to go to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Authentication Office to certify that statement you got from the embassy. It is done on the same day. Following that, you must visit the Egyptian Ministry of Justice. There, you will officially get married and register your marriage in Egypt. It took us the same day, but we went back and forth all over Cairo to collect all the documents needed. Documents that they might need are medicals, pictures, ID's, passports, and stuff like that. You are lucky if you get it done there the same day! usually you have to tip someone to expedite your wait! The document you get there is the main marriage contract. To use it later for the process, you have to get it translated, which can take 2-3 days at the notarizing office! It is all matter of how ready you have your papers and how fast the traffic is in Cairo :) Good luck...

I wouldn't not suggest an orfi marriage. It's trashy, IMO. You don't want to go that route. Not sure how long it would take nowadays but it was possible to do in one day back when I married there. It really depends on how long it takes to get around to all the places that will stamp your marriage documents. Getting the translation and notarizing done (We didn't have ours notarized) will take more than a day. You will want to be present for the translation to make sure everything is spelled correctly in English. My husband picked up our final certificate after I went back to the US and mailed me a copy to start the petition.

If the guy is willing to do an orfi with you, but would forbid it for his sister - he is a POS. If the guy is willing to accept orfi for both you and an arrangement for his sister - he is a POS.

just my opinion innocent.gif

Will you be in Cairo for a few days at least? If so, then you should have no problems even if it spills into another day. I think ours took from like 8am until around 3pm to finish but we were running the whole time. We had to bribe a few ppl along the way but that's pretty standard.

Nope not in English at all and the ceremony isn't in English either. You can get a translator for the marriage ceremony. I didn't but it's an option. I understood some and what I didn't understand my husband translated for me. You can have your fiance translate the contract for you before signing it. It covers things like property and mahr.

Yeah I suppose. What kind of agreements are you thinking about?

I didn't bother because we were planning on living in the US so US laws would apply should we get divorced.

Can the marriage process in egypt be done in one day?

starting from 9:30 am an appointment at the embassy to get the "ok" ?

Hi.

I got married in Cairo in June 2012. I scheduled the Embassy appointment months in advance, so we had the first appointment block of the morning. We planned to get it done in 1 day, but, due to the required medical check, it took 2 days. Pretty much, no one wanted to do the medical check for us because they are not allowed to charge over a certain amount (this is the reason my husband gave me... I can't remember the price but it was very low). And let me warn you, a lot of doctors at the hospitals were offering to do the certificate for us for $200 US Dollars... DO NOT FALL FOR THAT! My husband and I finally found a clinic that was clear across Cairo, and they did the medical for us. If it wasn't for that, we would have completed everything in one day. Let me tell you, though, it is VERY hectic! I was exhausted by the end of each day. At the end, it was pretty funny. We spoke to this couple at the Embassy and saw them again when getting married and we laughed and compared notes on who had the hardest time getting everything else done... lol. Just be prepared and make sure you have ALL of your documents, because they will ask for them.

Also, Yes, the marriage contract is COMPLETLY in Arabic. You will, however, have to get it translated before sending it in with your petition. And that will be a chore for your spouse too. My husband doesn't live in Cairo, so he had to travel but it may be easier for you guys because your spouse lives in Cairo.

Good luck. Everytihng is pretty much still in my mind. Fill free to ask any questions.

can you add additional agreements to the contract?

Yes, you can. When you go to actually get married, there will be someone who speaks english, doing your paperwork and he will ask you if there is anything that you want to add to the contract.

I'm curious, when did the medical become a requirement? A lot has changed since my husband and I got married and seems not for the better. Well convenience-wise anyways. :) Back then no medical required and no appointment necessary for the permission to marry. Also, isn't there now a charge for the permission to marry? Like $50 or something? I know there is a new charge somewhere along the line that we didn't have to pay.
