Advance Parole travel doc expiring

I have an Authorization for Parole of an Alien into the US, but it expires in June and my case still has not been processed. I think I may now have to apply for a new one to make sure I can leave the country in June and be allowed back in in July. I am so tired of all these forms and of the fact that I'm 95 days over normal processing times and no USCIS rep seems to be able to explain that....

Anyway, does anyone have experience with travel parole docs expiring? I have paper travel parole docs, not the combined card for work and travel parole (who knows why....sigh).

Sidenote: I am confused, what is the difference between a re-entry permit and an advance parole travel document?

If you look at the form, a re-entry permit is for permanent resident. As you are not yet, it is called Advance Parole in your case.

You just need to reapply for a new AP, still based on the fact that you have a pending AOS application. Your EAD should be also soon to expire then, no? They are both valid for a year. Unless you filed for them at different dates, which would explain why your AP is a paper and not a note on your EAD card.

Do I need this re-entry permit every time I travel temporarily when I have a green card? Won't there at some point, finally, be a time when I can live in the US and not need special documentation to be able to re-enter the country?

No and yes. A permanent resident can travel freely out of the US and just have to show a passport and green card when coming back, but just for short trips. A re-entry permit is a document you apply for when you want to go out of the country for a long time, for example, let's say, 2 years. I think you should read this link, it will explain you all in details: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=0c353a4107083210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=0c353a4107083210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD
