Hi All!

So next week my wife and I have our interview at the USCIS office in San Francisco and the notice included a checklist of things to bring with us to our interview including the spouse (me) to come. My question is that will they separate the both of us and ask us questions? What will this whole interview entail? We are both curious and a bit nervous to say the least. However she was approved and granted her work document, and her travel document is also approved but yet to recieve it. Needless to say it is going smooth thus far, but just a little worried about the interview with USCIS for my wife's AOS. Any help is greatly appreciated. Once again I love my VJ Family!!!!!!!!! with out you all I wouldn't be with my wife right now! :)

thanks!

They won't interview you separately unless they have fraud suspicions on your case. Just have all the documents on the checklist ready and well-organized, and go there without being nervous. If you did everything correctly and that your relationship is real, the interview won't even look like an interview. Questions are simple, answer honestly and truthfully.

It helps to know what to expect. Good luck! :)

All AOS interviews requires spouse to be present so this is perfectly normal.

It's the last step for AOS, yes. Some officers approve on the spot (the online update generally comes a few hours later), some say that they want to review the file more carefully but that it all looks good (online update comes a few hours/day later), sometimes there's a missing document (rare) so it takes longer. Some people wait weeks after the interview. But really, generally the interview is easy and the green card comes in the mail in the following weeks.

This is not the last step of everything. If you got married less than 2 years ago, you will receive a 2-year (conditional) green card. Three months before the expiration of that green card, you will have to apply for ROC (Removal of Conditions) in order to receive a new green card, valid 10 years this time (an interview is possible). There's a Guide on VJ to help you through that process. Then you can either choose to stay a permanent resident and you will have to renew your GC every 10 years, or you can choose to become a US citizen and start the naturalization process (you will be eligible after 3 years of permanent residency if you are still married to your US citizen spouse). Again, you can find all those infos in the Guide tab on VJ. Everything is explained. :)

Hello. I had a successful interview a few days ago, approved on spot. My husband and I were interviewed together. We were asked the following questions:

1. How did you meet?

2. When did you start dating?

3. What did you talk about on the phone? (while we both lived in Germany, we were separated for a year as my husband was deployed with the US Army in the Middle East)

4. For myself: How many times I visited the USA while I was dating my husband?

5. For my husband: When did you propose, describe it.

6. For myself: Do you remember the date when your husband proposed to you?

I was also asked if I work and if I have SSN. We were also asked to show documents proving that we live together, and to show the photo album. We had 150 photos from our trips in Europe, and weddings photos, which seemed enough.

My advice is just to be prepared and have complete paperwork/documents ready as requested in the notice letter. If you are truly married and live together, you will not have problems answering the questions! Again, each case is different, depends on your circumstances and your case etc. Hope my input helps a bit. I wish you Good luck! :)

September 2010 met in Germany

October 2010 started dating

September 2012 got married

26 December 2012 - Filed for AOS

11 March 2013 - AOS approved (DAY 72)
