Has anybody taken the shuttle from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang since they moved the domestic flights to Don Mueang? Or would taking a taxi be better?

I went through that in the opposite direction from Don Muang back to Swampy back in 2010. I had like 8 hours so I just took a taxi down to Sukhumvit, had a few beers, and then took another taxi to Swampy. You might check because for awhile domestic flights were going to both Swampy and Don Muang. I know Nok Air was doing it for awhie.

My husband did this many times. Outside Suv there are places to get on a free shuttle bus which takes you a short distance to the place you find the buses to other areas including Mueang. Go to the ticket booth to buy ticket and be shown where to board bus or van. They all use the exact same route as taxis ect so the trip is the same time. You are dropped off right in front of the door.

Cost was about 10% of a taxi ride. He didnt do it to save the money. He just wanted to see how it worked.

They have that airport rail link up and running now. I think it takes you as far Makkasan. Not sure what you do after you get there. Check out Thaivisa. I'm sure they have a bunch of stuff about it on there.

Thanks Karee and Ning. Still don't know what I will do yet since there is 4 of us and all of our bags and getting in at 12am. We have a hotel near Suvarnabhumi and the hotel said they will take us to the "free shuttle" back at Suvarnabhumi the next day before we have to fly out of Don Mueang. I think most domestic flights have moved to Don Mueang since October except for Thai Airways.

They can't seem to make up their minds in regards to that.

The last time I flew Air Asia back in 2010 they flew out of Suvarnabhumi. Now they fly out of Don Mueang. http://www.airasia.com/ask/template.do?id=548. Right now I'm finding Air Asia, Nok Air and Thai Airways that fly to Ubon Ratchathani. Of that group Nok Air also flys from Don Mueang.

Yeah I flew Nok Air from Don Mueang to Ubon back in 2010. It does seem pretty confusing.

I did the same in 2007, I flew Nok Air from Don M. to Ubon. I took a cab from Suvarnabhumi to Don M. at that time. I think back then the total cost for a cab was about 500 baht.

I traveled out of Bangkok every week when I lived there. One thing i didn't like about Don Muang was about half the time you had to take a bus to get to the plane to takeoff, and the same when you landed. When they opened the new airport I thought thank god I wont have to do that. No such luck. Same thing. I couldn't believe it. Also Swampy is one huge duty free shop now. I guess King Power paid the right people.

Yeah when I flew into Swampy back in 2010 we had to take a bus from the plane to the airport. From what it sounded like from Pui and her friends is that Delta for the most part landed at the bus gate back then. At the time Pui was working in the call center at Swampy so I got to greet her once I got into the airport. Later on that trip we took a domestic flight at Swampy I remember walking into a small shop and seeing water for 10 baht, later when we were in a King Power shop the same water was selling for 35 baht so I left the King Power shop and walked to the small shop and bought a few waters there for us. A few months later Pui got a job working in one of the King Power duty free shops at Swampy and it is very cut throat for the employees because everything is on commission to the employee who sells the item so everybody is competing against each other for the customer. I was happy when she had to quit that job to come here because I did not like how expensive the water was compared to the other shop.

I'll pay 35 baht for a bottle of water in the airport any day versus 3-5 dollars in the states. lol As for me, the only good memory about Don M. is that I got drunk there while waiting for 6 hours to catch a flight to my hometown Udon Thani back in 2005. That trip was my first in 30 yrs since moving to USA. It was so exciting in Thailand, and I was single then; didn't mind the waiting.

 My buddy took a video of me there last time we went for Songkran eating a hamburger drunk off my a$$. Trying to convince her to give me money for another beer. Then I realized I had money in my pocket, and I was gone. Off to the bar!

I took a taxi about 4 months ago and it seems like it was around 500 baht including the airport surcharge and the tolls. They also have a free airport to airport shuttle now if you have a departure ticket the day of or the day after your Swampy arrival.
